Cyber Love Rules Review ofBandai Tamagotchi connection version 2by

Advantages: Fun pet, no mess! Disadvantages: Easy to lose.
If you have ever fancied a pet that doesn't make a mess, doesn't smell, doesn't drain your finances or roll in the mud, then I might have just the thing for you. But, if you need the love and affection of wet kisses and a waggy tail then you might find this pet a little lacking.
The Tamagotchi
******************
The first electronic cyber pet hit the world back in November 1996. It was a pet in your pocket, a computer chipped pet which you fed ... ...is a small hand held computer game which is simple to use and fits within the palm of an adult hand. The craze swept the UK in the 1990s but soon fizzled out. Our kids got one when they were (too) small and it was never properly played with and ended up no doubt at the next school fair. The tamagotchi craze ended because the pet was rather boring. You fed it, played games with it and if you forgot it died and you had to start again.

Advantages: teach a child how to look after a pet Disadvantages: can be lost easily
There probably aren't many families with children that haven't heard of a Tamagotchi in their house. Whether they've bought them for the kids or the kids friends have one, and they have played on it, one way or another there will be a connection to one of these little toys.
*What are they *
Tamagotchi's are a virtual pet, living in an egg shaped brightly coloured plastic case for children to look after.
When you first start playing with these ... ...be a boy or girl and you don't get to know until the egg is hatched. Next you will have to choose a name for your pet.
Sounds simple enough doesn't it. But what's the appeal to kids?
Last year these things were all the rage, and I ended up having to go into town on Christmas Eve when I thought I'd finished all my shopping to get one because my ten year old wanted one for Christmas and I had forgotten.
*History *
Tamagotchi's were invented by ...

Advantages: No nappies, no baby clutter! Disadvantages: I've become a Granny in my early thirties!!!
As a teacher I vowed that I would never, ever allow my children to be swept away by silly, expensive school crazes. So here I am sitting by the computer, Tamagotchi at the side of me, checking that it has enough food and love to keep it happy and healthy, and making sure that it doesn't need the toilet. This eating, pooing piece of plastic is the ideal starter pet. It makes no real mess, very little noise but it allows a humane experiment into how ... ...course it is not real; this little device is roughly 6x5 cm, made of plastic and fits neatly into your hand.
The Tamagotchi Connexion, created by Bandai, is a re-invention of its nineties sibling. Essentially it is a very basic computer game, with a blobby inanimate object hat bounces around on the screen. It has a large screen and three small buttons which allow you to toggle between icons and control various functions. Unfortunately there are ...

Get ye a Tamagotchi! Review ofBandai Tamagotchi connection version 2by

Advantages: Small and sound can be turned off! Disadvantages: Child's interest lasts as long as the battery!
I bought 2 of my kids a Tamagotchi each for Christmas and I would say that now 3 1/2 months later, the novelty has just worn off (coincidently this is how long the battery lasted!).
-------The product-------
This is a Tamagotchi version 2 which means you can connect to others by means of an infra red port. They can play games and exchange items this way. It comes in a kind of blister pack which is tricky to open. Take care that you don't bin the ... ...Toys r us (£12.99) but I have seen them for £11.99 in Tesco.
They come in a variety of colours but I recommend that you get one of those round the neck mobile phone strings to put it on (you can pick them up for around £1) as the Tamagotchi's are small and easy to loose.
-------Setting your Tamagotchi----------
When you finally get into the thing you will be able to set it. You enter your childs DOB (I think the Tamagotchi's are supposed to celebrate ...

Advantages: Fun, compact and not too expensive Disadvantages: Beeps a lot
Tamogotchi Ver 2
My daughter was desperate for one of these at Christmas - seems to be a bit of a craze at school.
I was a bit reluctant but it hasn't been as bad as I imagined. I refuse to allow it to go to school as it does cause some distraction at home, consequently, I have to look after it during the day. Initially, I was afraid that I would kill it and have a distraught child but provided it's checked once or twice, it seems to survive. Quick ... ...to keep it reasonably happy. It does have a pause button that means that you can turn it off if you really want to. The only problem with this is that the pet then ceases to grow.
This is the easiest way for your children to have a pet. It grows, needs feeding, needs cleaning up after and needs playing with in order for it to survive and not die. It exists on an LCD screen and fits nicely into the palm of your hand. You interact by pressing three ...
