I joined Bank One so that I could make use of their very low rate for card transfer and I was very satisfied with the way my account was handled. Absolutely no problems, the interest was charged as stated, and I have now recently paid off my account. It has been taken over by the Halifax Bank, and I recently received, completely unsolicited, 5 blank cheques and One cheque payable to myself for £500.It was only after reading the small print that I realised that these were credit card cheques charged to my account and that there was also a handling charge of 1.5% attached to these cheques. It is possible that some people who receive these cheques may be mistaken into thinking that the cheques are a gift to them, especially the one made out payable to them. I feel it is deplorable that any company should send out items like this especially as there is a chance that they could go missing in the mail, and the first anyone would be aware of them is when they get a bill with the charges added.

Credit card 'cheques' are fairly standard but it's quite sly pre-printing one with your name on it - incredibly misleading.

Good op - Most credit card companies send you cheques when you first open the account to encourage you to transfer balances, and most of them have a handling fee added on. I think it is a little bit sneaky though to send one with your name on it and could possibly send out all sorts of messages to the customer, I assume they intend you to put this in your current account, very sneaky.

Advantages: Quick and Convienient in the sense that you do not need to carry cash for paying for large items Disadvantages: Some shops especially charity still do not accept them
