...Recently I had a problem with an overseas company whom I had been paying by Direct Debit on my credit card. I asked them to deal with it, they did very quickly and replied in writing with a satisfactory answer within days. I was impressed with the speed and accuracy.
Also web site banking makes the handling of this account very easy. By using the HSBC web site you are able to make payments to your credit card account, thus doing away with the need to use the postal service and phone banking. Naturally you are also able to check out the progress of indiviual payments and the runnung balance of your account. I use a number of bankweb sites and I have to say that HSBC has the best by far. It enables you to control your accounts with the greatest ease, compared to other banks....

...reference check. A few days later, I received a formal application form which I signed and returned. Soon enough, my account was officially opened and received my cheque book and debit card. All direct debit detail from my old account were transferred to my new PCA in around a month.
The PCA automatically comes with a PlusSaver (PS) account if you wish to use it. The PS is just another account where you can transfer you money to and from and to your PCA. The difference are, The PP is a saving account and offer higher interest rate paid annually, 3.75%AER.
There is also an optional Internet banking. Again, the registration was simple. You can make phone call or apply for Internet banking on A & L home web site. After a few days, you will receive separately a login ID (a long combination numbers) and a pin number. Once you logged on...

Advantages: clean, clear and understandable Disadvantages: can be really slooooooooooow!
...I have had an account with them for almost a year now and I have always found it easy to use. The main gripe I would have with the site is that it can be a little slow at times, normally the times when you want to get out of a share and make a quick profit!!
Apart from that it can be easy to navigate to all manner of Halifax stuff, not just shares. I already have a bank account and web saver and can check and move money to and from my share account with a few clicks. Best of all the price they quote is the price you end up getting, whether buying or selling, so when the contract note comes it normally says what it should do and the value of your trade hasn't suddenly decreased in the post....
