The BOS is one of the best banks that I have ever used, it is extremely convenient for me and combines features and high interest rates.
I combine two accounts, one low interest rate account with a debit card for spending money, and one high interest account for keeping large amounts of money for gain. It is simple to move money between these accounts both at the branch, over the telephone and using Internet HOBS (home and office banking service), the website that allows registered users to do everything they do for you in the branch except for paying in and withdrawing money!
HOBS is really the BoS’s killer app, it is what sets them apart from every other bank with similar interest rates and service. All you need to do to use HOBS is go to their website, print off a registration form and then send it. Within a few days you will be given a username and then you phone for a password. After this you are free to change your username and password.
With HOBS you can view your balance, check money transfers, move money between accounts in real time and much more. This is all very fast and you can see changes immediately without going to your branch. However, this doesn’t allow you to do anything with cash or cheques, so for this you still need your local branch.
I haven’t really been with a huge number of banks, however, form what I’ve seen, the BoS service is pretty fast and efficient. They are always willing to help you with whatever you need. However, in my local branch they prefer you to use the envelope pay in, and the manageress gets into arguments with loyal customers about why they are foolish not to use this great service.
However, I can’t complain about the staff once you get to the tables, they are friendly and helpful, and don’t seem hellbent on keeping the turnover of customers high, they just help. The cash machines are pretty, good, just as you might expect – cash, PIN changes, chequebook order etc.
If you want a good bank with high interest rates and a friendly service then you could do much worse than choose the Bank of Scotland, and even if you don’t have a nearby branch it is a good choice in conjunction with HOBS and your flexible friend (magnetic card)
I have been with the Bank of Scotland for years and regularly use the telephone banking facility so was very eager to try the new internet banking site to access my current account. Unfortunately, the site is rather more limited than I had hoped. You can view your account with no problems (except the long wait on an average PC) and see what you have pending, but cannot actually arrange any transactions. Transfers can be made to other BOS accounts ...

Advantages: Great for online banking Disadvantages: Staff in branch are quite unhelpful & a bit pushy
I have been a customer with RBS for about 7 years now. And there are both advantages and disadvantages with banking with RBS.
ADVANTAGES:
TheIr onlinebanking is great and easy to use. Very handy for busy people who want to pay bills etc outside of normal banking hours.
You can view statements up to 6months prior to todays date, and download them into Word or Excel docs if you wish.
You cal also search for tranascation by type ie cheque, ddm etc
If you need to order a new cheque book or paying in book this canalso be done online
There is also the option of using the telephone banking system they offer, and the staff on that line have alweays been really helpful with any queries etc and they are there for you to speak to 24/7
DISADVANTAGES:
The disdadvantage of this bank is the branches. Firstly, there are not that many ...
Advantages: You'll never need to visit your bank again. Disadvantages: Security errors when they arise.
I had been using the telephone banking service offered by the Royal BankScotland (RBS) for a number of years, when they launched their PC Banking. Being relatively new to the internet I was weary of signing up, although knowing how easy the telephone banking service was I decided to give it a try.
The PC banking registration was fairly simple and the security steps in place are reassuring. The additional bonus of this service is that you can use the facility on one or more machines but each with a different registration code. I found this very useful as I can use the service in two places with the confidence of total security at each.
Once I started regularly using the service I realised there were a few areas that could be improved and over the past year they have and the options available have made PC banking as easy ...
Advantages: Good Service and Secure Disadvantages: Sometimes Slow
I have been a customer of the Royal Bank of Scotland for a number of years. Although I have been into a few branches where the service has not been all that good I do rate them as offering excellent accounts, choice, good rates and good returns. Since the introduction of the Direct Banking through the internet, by banking life has been changed all together. I enjoy using the service and now it is digital it could not be better. Although sometimes slow I find all the functions offered on the site, actually save me from trawlling into the branch, which is very good. There has been some question as to how safe nd secure your money is when carrying out transactions online, but I have never had a problem, touch wood, and I use the service every day.
It is exceptionally easy to use, with access to both statements, mini statements, facilities ...
