No More Getting Dirty In The Garden!!
Advantages: No mess, no more lighter fluid, easy to use
Disadvantages: a bit dearer than normal charcoal but well worth it.
I tried a gas bbq for a couple of years on the advice of a few people I know saying that they didn't taste any different than a proper bbq, and I suppose they don't really taste that different and they are certainly much easier and cleaner to set up ...

Less mess, less time, more money
Advantages: So much easier to use, simply light. Mess free
Disadvantages: Slightly more money than normal charcoal

Advantages: Quick and reliable to light
Disadvantages:
One of the most aggravating things about barbecuing is waiting for the charcoal to get hot. You can accelerate this by using fluid, lighters etc, but I think they do taint food, however slightly.
