I hate motor insurance, I hate the wedge of my income that I have to spend every year on protecting my car from some of the idiots who think they own the road or have fluked their way through our country's pathetic driving exam. Anyway enough ranting, onto the facts.
I've just left Axa, who I didn't have a problem with at all. For the 2nd year running, Axa gave me the "best" price on my insurance with sufficient cover etc. However tucked away in a draw was a letter which I'd had during the year from Barclaycard promising to beat any quote, no quibbles.
I've a P reg VW Polo and 2 years no claims, living in a decent area & am 25,male.(useful to know if you have / are similar).
So I spoke to Barclaycard, who weren't after too many questions. I got through straightaway and after about 3 minutes, I had a quote, only £10 cheaper, but the excesses were lower, in one case £50 lower so this was a factor in my choice. The policy was all but the same. A few days later, I received a welcome pack from Barclaycard and had to send in proof of my quote from Axa. You can't pay by monthly installments, the idea is you put it on your barclaycard and pay the apr on that, however i put it on my egg card which is 11.9% apr and not the 19% that barclaycard is.
I would recommend both companies. Axa is v.useful as you can check your policy online and see how much difference it makes if you increase your voluntary excess.
Since buying the insurance, I've had to ring them twice and both times have got through within 20 seconds and had my questions answered quickly and efficiently.
With Barclaycard you have another option, which is to get a quote on their standard insurance and use 100 of your loyalty points to get a 10% discount.
I am unsure if you have to own a barclaycard to get the above offer but if this interests you, then the telephone number is 0870 024 0002 or log onto www.barclaycard.com
FYI the insurance is underwritten by UK Insurance Ltd.
So far so good, may report back at some point later in the year if there's any problems / claims etc........
