BARCLAYCARD CASHBACK MASTERCARD

HISTORY

42 years ago, in 1966, the same year that England won the Football World Cup, the first credit card was introduced in Europe. Since then, it seems that everybody has credit cards in their wallets, handbags, pockets etc. It is now almost seen as odd if somebody does not carry a credit card, and actual cash in the form of notes and coins is being used less and less, and cheques are ...

● Barclaycard was set up in 1966, making it the UK’s first credit card. ● Barclaycard was a founder member of the international VISA system in 1977 and the first credit card company to go online in 1995. ● Barclaycard is Europe’s leading issuer of credit cards, with some 11 million in circulation – 8.4 million of those are in the UK. That makes 1 in 5 UK credit cards a Barclaycard. ● Barclaycard can be used at over 22 million ...
...Digest” found British consumers rated Barclaycard the most trusted credit card brand in the country. OK, so I think we can establish that Barclaycard have a big brand image (so big that their name is even recognised by my spellchecker, in fact). They are trusted and used by a lot of people. They have a history of innovation and moving with the times. So why is it that the good people of Ciao have seen fit to give Barclaycard an average rating of ...

Finally 2 reasons to get a Barclaycard

Advantages: Great purchase protection and extended warranty
Disadvantages: Just about everything else

...So, full marks to Barclaycard for this added benefit of a years extra peace of mind. However, at the same time I was looking on the website about the extended guarantee, I noticed something else… Price Promise. Basically, Price promise states that if you buy something branded for one price, then find it cheaper somewhere else within 60 days, you can claim back the difference from Barclaycard. I’ve seen price promises advertised before in shops, ...
...bought it). However, witht the Barclaycard price promise there appear to be a lot less restrictions, only that the item must be branded, cost more than £50, paid for in full with the card, and….. and this is the best part….. it even applies to internet sales (provided its UK based, available in exactly the same colour, etc., with the same warranty, and you once you have added the delivery and packaging costs on). Having seen this, I decided to have ...

Sparklycard

Advantages: Reputable company with great offers and deals
Disadvantages: Not a low APR

I was given a student Barclaycard about 5 years ago. They started me off on a low credit limit of £350 which is plenty for a poor student. In the five years that I have had the card, I have never fallen into the trap that many people do, of spending just because the credit is there. I pay for all my necessaties on my Barclaycard and then pay it off in full at the end of each month, which means that I always know exactly what is in my bank. Barclaycards ...
...also withdraw cash on a Barclaycard at a cash machine but you will be charged either 1.5% or £1.50, whichever is greatest, so I have never used this service. If you make full payments on time, you will not pay any interest, and Barclaycard occasionally send you a letter to say that your credit limit has been raised. Mine has changed from £350 to £2150 in 5 years. The APR on Barclaycard may appear higher than many other cards that are being offered, ...

Barclaycard Rewards no longer REWARDING

Advantages: Reward Scheme
Disadvantages: Rewards no longer good value

I have had a barclaycard for as long as I can remember (nearly 30 years), and during that time I have spent a lot of money using Barclaycard. The Interest rate is probably not the best around but not the worst either, and as I have both a Mastercard and Visa card from them, I use one which I pay off monthly, and the other if I nead extended credit, which helps to minimise interest payments. Barclaycard introduced a points scheme a number of years ...
...points we received. With Barclaycard you get 1 point for every £10 spent, and gifts require a set number of points, eg a case of wine 600 points, 2 cinema tickets 290 points, £10 Amazon voucher 400 points, £10 Leisure voucher which can be used in Pizza Hut, Brewer's Fayre and Travel Inns, etc. Over the years I have made use of quite a number of these offers, including Wine, Brewer's Fayre and the cinema tickets and enjoyed their use. Now Everything ...

Not as safe on the web as Angus assumes

Advantages: shouldn't there be some?
Disadvantages: high APR, abysmal response to e-fraud case, £15 if you're late each month

...is Angus Deayton in the Barclaycard advertisements. “You’re covered against fraud” etc. etc. Well, I can tell you that they play a different tune when you’ve actually been on the receiving end of an e-commerce fraud. For all the gory details see my review on CIAO of the little known but big on pulling a fast one ISP “BigBlueSky”. Suffice to say that the ISP took £25 from me for a “year’s free access” ...
...As I’d signed up with Barclaycard (indeed it’s the only card I use on the web for just this reason - despite the horrendous interest rates) I assumed I was covered against fraud. I wrote to their charge back department in Stockton-on-Tees and included screen shots from the BBS site. Explained that I hadn’t got the service I’d paid for and would like a refund as this was obviously fraud. Barclaycard wrote back, TEMPORARILY ...

Cashback with Barclaycard!

Advantages: Cashback, Good security, Dropped to 1% for new customers
Disadvantages: Overseas call centre, Unreliable site

ABOUT THE CARD The Barclaycard Platinum is a credit card from Barclays Bank and I decided to sign up for one of these because of the promise of cashback on purchases. There are several Barclaycards available, each with different features but I tend to go for cashback cards as I don't want one that doesn't give me anything. Ones that gives me 0% on purchase or balance transfers for a limited time aren't any good to me either. It has the usual chip and PIN and is a VISA card. When I first started using the card, I'd received two phone calls on my mobile from Barclaycard staff members telling me there had been suspicious activities on my card, which did have me worried. However, on going over the recent transactions with the Barclaycard staff members, it turned out to be just my busy self spending my money all over the place. I do ...

Goodbye Barclaycard

Advantages: Good customer service, regular 0% offers, good online service
Disadvantages: APR not competitive enough, moving to India

I remember the day I first received my Barclaycard. I was 18 years old, in my first job and I was excited about the very thought that this card could be used to buy things when I didn't even have any money in the bank. This novelty soon wore off when I realised, just how much I was getting charged for this privilege and since then I have been a moderate user of credit cards. I recently moved house and had my car serviced and put all these expenses onto the credit card. I am now making a concerted effort to get my credit card paid off in the next few months, by switching balances between my Barclaycard and my other credit-card to take advantage of the 0% transfer deals. I have been intending to cut one of the cards up once the balance is paid, but have been debating as to which one. My mind was made up 100% this last week though ...

Credit Due to BarclayCard Motor Insurance

Advantages: Beat any quote, good service
Disadvantages: None so far

I hate motor insurance, I hate the wedge of my income that I have to spend every year on protecting my car from some of the idiots who think they own the road or have fluked their way through our country's pathetic driving exam. Anyway enough ranting, onto the facts. I've just left Axa, who I didn't have a problem with at all. For the 2nd year running, Axa gave me the "best" price on my insurance with sufficient cover etc. However tucked away in a draw was a letter which I'd had during the year from Barclaycard promising to beat any quote, no quibbles. I've a P reg VW Polo and 2 years no claims, living in a decent area & am 25,male.(useful to know if you have / are similar). So I spoke to Barclaycard, who weren't after too many questions. I got through straightaway and after about 3 minutes, I had a quote, only £10 cheaper, but ...
