BARCLAYCARD CASHBACK MASTERCARD HISTORY 42 years ago, in 1966, the same year that England won the Football World Cup, the first credit card was introduced in Europe. Since then, it seems that everybody has credit cards in their wallets, handbags, pockets etc. It is now almost seen as odd if somebody does not carry a credit card, and actual cash in the form of notes and coins is being used less and less, and cheques are also being used less, with the usage of credit cards increasing. Barclaycard was the first credit card to offer withdrawals from ATMs, and the first to provide customers with ... more

    ● Barclaycard was set up in 1966, making it the UK’s first credit card. ● Barclaycard was a founder member of the international VISA system in 1977 and the first credit card company to go online in 1995. ● Barclaycard is Europe’s leading issuer of credit cards, with some 11 million in circulation – 8.4 million of those are in the UK. Advantages Advantages Great purchase protection and extended warranty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Just about everything else

Finally I found a good reason to use my Barclaycard. Well, actually two I guess, but one is a godsend. On Saturday I purchased a new Sony DVD Recorder from Dixons. I knew that I would be paying more than I could have paid on some websites, but for the convenience of having it there and then, and for a little “retail therapy” I decided to take it. I paid in full on my Barclaycard, as I have done on a couple of occasions, to take advantage of their year’s extended guarantee offer. I object to the high prices Dixons and others charge for extending warranties, sometimes as much as 25% on top of ... more

I was given a student Barclaycard about 5 years ago. They started me off on a low credit limit of £350 which is plenty for a poor student. In the five years that I have had the card, I have never fallen into the trap that many people do, of spending just because the credit is there. I pay for all my necessaties on my Barclaycard and then pay it off in full at the end of each month, which means that I always know exactly what is in my bank. Barclaycards have a pin number so that you can check your balance at a cash machine. You can also withdraw cash on a Barclaycard at a cash machine but you ... more

I have had a barclaycard for as long as I can remember (nearly 30 years), and during that time I have spent a lot of money using Barclaycard. The Interest rate is probably not the best around but not the worst either, and as I have both a Mastercard and Visa card from them, I use one which I pay off monthly, and the other if I nead extended credit, which helps to minimise interest payments. Barclaycard introduced a points scheme a number of years ago, and I found it quite useful to get free gifts, indeed a couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to use the card in the supermarket for ... more
