I got the student Barclaycard when I started university in 1999. At the time they were offering a mobile phonepay as you go and so I accepted. This came in useful. However now I believe they are offering £20 in book vouchers to open a Barclaycard account(best check though):
www.Barclaycard.co.uk, and click on register.
You can access your account over the net (see above and once registered click on the link to logon). This service, I find particulary useful as I then transfer money from my regular student bank account to pay off the credit on the Barclaycard.NOTE: the Barclaycard homepage takes a while to load and when it does bits disappear, this is suppossed to be arty but is just annoying, hang on though , it will load up in the end.
I do use my barclaycard a fair bit but tend to pay the money back in the six week period of non interest payment. However if you choose to have credit on the card then the present rate is around 1.492%.
Barclaycard have also upped the max credit limit to £500 which is reasonable for students. They also guarantee internet transactions and provide an extra years gaurantee on nearly all electrical items bought with a value over £50.
Overall then: a good value card for students.
