Lets see, I live with my fiance and some mates in a big student house where we argue, make a mess and have parties (u...

I was given a student Barclaycard about 5 years ago. They started me off on a low credit limit of £350 which is plenty for a poor student. In the five years that I have had the card, I have never fallen into the trap that many people do, of spending just because the credit is there.
I pay for all my necessaties on my Barclaycard and then pay it off in full at the end of each month, which means that I always know exactly what is in my bank.
Barclaycards have a pin number so that you can check your balance at a cash machine. You can also withdraw cash on a Barclaycard at a cash machine but you will be charged either 1.5% or £1.50, whichever is greatest, so I have never used this service.
If you make full payments on time, you will not pay any interest, and Barclaycard occasionally send you a letter to say that your credit limit has been raised. Mine has changed from £350 to £2150 in 5 years.
The APR on Barclaycard may appear higher than many other cards that are being offered, but beware that many company's rates are introductory and will get higher over time. I think Barclaycard APR is around 20%
There is a £10 annual charge, but this is waived if you spend a certain amount in a year, which is about £2000. I had spent just under that and was charged, but I phoned them and they removed the charge for me!
You get 1 Barclaycard Reward for every pound that you spend. These can be used to pay for a variety of useful things (see their webpage) including Airport parking (this saved us £35 in one go) and Amazon Vouchers (we used 3 in one go for a £30 book recently).
Purchasing products with your Barclaycard insures them if they are over £50, and when you buy electrical goods, you can phone them up and recieve a free extra years warranty.
I recently phoned Barclaycard for a car insurance quote. (They guarantee to beat your renewal quote). They knocked my insurance from £270 down to £200. This is also available to non-cardholders because my boyfriend has just done it and saved hundreds on his car insurance.
Basically, the services are too many to list, but the staff are efficient and helpful when you ring them up, and you can spend your Rewards and handle your account on line if you wish.
I'll shut up now cause I'm probably boring you, but there's lots more advantages available on their webpage @ www.barclaycard.co.uk
