Over the years, Barclays Bank have provided me with, a current account, a business account, an educational assistance loan, with excellent interest rates - I borrowed £1600 over a one year period and paid £96 in interest, and the excellent service of on-line banking. I no longer have the business account but received excellent honest advice when I was using it.

Barclays have an excellent online banking service which is free to non-business customers (You pay for Online Banking per user - not per account. So for an initial set-up fee of £20, and an annual fee of £15 you can get access to the current, deposit and loan accounts of up to 10 businesses. All other regular business account charges apply on top of this). To apply online for Barclays Online Banking you need to be a Barclays Personal Account customer and have a Barclays Connect card, if you are and do, then there is a simple on line process to follow. If you are not a customer at present, you will need to call the helpine and apply for a regular personal account first. The website is quite minimalistic and very easy to navigate. Since banking on-line with Barclays two years ago, I have never once experienced the website to be down and have never had it crash on me either. The web site is very easy to navigate, offering services whereby once you are on-line with your current account, you can set up many other accounts (ie. savings) at the click of a button. You can set up and cancel standing orders and direct debits using this service as well as transfer money from one account to another. There is also an option to download your statements.

Barclays have recently launched the 'openplan' scheme whereby Barclays you tell Barclays the minimum and maximum amount of money you would like in your personal account and Barclays will move any amounts above or below this to and from a savings account for you. (see the website for more details on this).

The only time I visit the bank anymore is to withdraw large amounts of catch (which isn't very often, believe you me) or to deposit cheques - if only this could be done on the internet. There does tend to be a queue whenever I go to any of the local Barclays branches if it is during a lunch hour or first thing in the morning - that frustrates me, however there is a very simple system for depositing money where you literally fill in a simple paying in form, stick your cash in the envelope, pop your bank card into the machine and drop the envelope in the wall.

Barclays are also very good with overdrafts. I used to have £100 overdraft limit and sometimes it would go over that for a day or two - Barclays would never charge me for this happening.

In Conclusion: Barclays would be an excellent choice for those who would like the convenience of on-line banking.

I quite like the online banking service of Barclays. It is pretty good. I hardly visit the branch these days (unless I want to purchase foreign currency for my trips abroad). Very good opinion.

Nice to hear Barclays online service is good...although didn't they have a major security issue about six months ago where users were seeing other peoples balances and details? One question though...why pay for business account when several banks now offer free banking for businesses?
