OPINION FOR ONLINE BANKING ONLY....

I have been with barclays since their promotion on Hula Hoops, about 10 years. I have always been very happy with their service and their co operation. I have recently gone online with them which is what i am going to talk about now.

To register for Online Banking you need to be aged 16 or over and have a Barclays UK personal current account. To set up the account was fairly straight forward, just pop into your local branch and speak to an advisor. The rest of the paperwork is done through the post. From start to finish will only take about a week or so. Then armed with your personal information log on to www.ibank.baclays.co.uk and bash it all in. It is a very secure website and has the balance between being to long and secure to log on and being unsafe and easy to hack. Barclays even offer a 100% against internet fraud!

When you have successfully logged on you can check your current balance on the main screen. you can probe further into you account history , (i beleive the maximum is 1 month). Is it so easy to keep a tab on your payments ie. direct debits, cheques etc. If you log on regulary then it can spot any wrong payments due to fraud etc before it is too late!

It is easy to transfer money to a person or even a company and you can even input your on reference name too. You can pay your bills, set up standing orders, apply for an overdraft at the click of a button.

If you have two accounts then you can easily transfer money between the two instantly which is very handy if you need to juggle your money around! Statements can be downloaded to many software packages so you can keep records for yourself. (you will still receive normal statements via post).
At only a click of a button you can set up or increase your overdraft or apply for a Barclayloan. Also you can create an e-savings account or a savings bond.

If you are relocating then you can even change your personal contact details online. There really is so much you can do with barclays online banking!

The system can be a bit slow at times loading up, ie peak times but generally a quick and efficient service is available. If you are an internet novice then do not be afraid as this site is very straight forward and easy to navigate around.

If you travel a lot then do not worry. The site can be accessed from most countries with a few exceptions. You will still have access to all the options as normal. you could even check on holdiay to check your spending!!

But i think the coolest thing about the whole system is the fact that it can be done from the comfort of your own home, in your favourite chair! but now you have to leave your chair and get down to your local branch and sign up!! Even if you are not sure about how much you will use it, dont worry as it is free to join and therefore having the service when you need it!

Good op. However, I have never been a fan of Barclays - my wife used to have an account with them and they were terrible. Customer service leaves a bit to be desired.

Advantages: It is so easy to use Barclays Online Bank and it is very secure!
Disadvantages: It takes it's security very serious, but a little too serious! If you click twice instead of once in your account area you are logged off!
