I have held a Barclays Bank account for 3 years now and I have to say I find the service extremely poor. I have on numerous occasions set up Direct Debits over the phone only to be find they never actually got put on the system and therefore putting me in arrears with with the companies I have regular financial commitments with. I find this totally embarrassing having to explain that my "BANK" are obviously incapable of running their own computer system. I have also found the staff at my local London branch to be extremely rude and dont seem to know how to say Please or Thank You anything would be midly better than an uninterested GRUNT!! So in conclusion if u are thinking of opening a current account my advise is go ELSEWHERE!!!

i opened a account with barclays and they were very nice, i set up a direct debit on the phone and was put on my account straight away!

Advantages: reasonable package of benefits, decent online banking, let you use cheques paid in immediately Disadvantages: charges, abysmal interest if in credit, big behemot, not ethical
