I can go on forever about the sheer number of altercations I have had with this abortion of a bank over the course of the last 4 years.
In a nutshell: do not expect to have any money credited to your account if it has been debited by Barclays due to errant ATM machines even though you never received any actual cash from these machines. They will simply tell you that the transactions occurred. The fact that you walked away empty handed with the error message still blinking on the ATM saying it cant give you any money, will count for nothing. They dont seem to have the technological means to actually ascertain as to whether this money was actually dispensed and thus, will not refund you. When you do actually get money from the ATM, expect to have this debit go through twice on your account. Do not try to query this duplication - Barclays seem unable to verify how many times you actually drew and received money. Being the placid customer they expect you to be, please do not waste their time trying to find out why they seem to think it ok to debit your account several times for a single transaction. They will simply tell you that this is what shows on their records. Do not be so absurd as to question the accuracy of said records. Being Barclays they are completely incapable of being in the wrong and never make mistakes.
Do not expect to actually benefit from their Global Solutions Discount transfer scheme. The money you are supposed to save on transfer fees through this scheme will be surpassed by the fortune you will spend on telephone bills trying to find out why you were charged 2 to 3 times as much as you should have been. By the time they actually admit to their mistake and refund you, the money you have wasted on telephone calls could have paid at least one month's mortgage on your house. Oh...and if you suddenly find GBP16 000 being transferred from your account to an entity you dont know, expect to spend vast amounts of time and money getting your money back. Also...dont be surprised by the GBP47 they will charge you for this erroneous transfer as well as the additional GBP25 odd when it turns out they transferred it to a non-existing account and then want you to pay a penalty for the bounced transfer. You will eventually get your money back if you are willing to spend weeks and weeks arguing with them over the ethics behind these charges.
I have never in my life experienced such inefficiency, arrogance and seen such a mockery being made of the word "customer service" as I have with this bank.
If you had a choice between having rusted, acid laced nails inserted into your eyeballs or opening an account with this bank, go for the nails. It will be far less painful.
Welcome to Ciao. Whilst I understand your frustration (I've had enough run ins with banks to know exactly what you mean), you need to give us more info on the Barclays Account and what they do and do not offer. Cheers
