Have I experienced problems in the past as a customer? Yes
Do they offer the best rates? No
Do they have the best facilities? No

The above would insinuate that this would be a negative review but it wont be. The reason for this is that Barclays, atleast in my experience, have been to good at resolving serious problems when I have had them. This is probably the reason that I have been their customer for so long. I have been attracted by better account privileges and rates elsewhere but I know with Barclays should I experience any serious issues that they will be worked on and resolved. This piece of mind makes it hard to switch.

Let me substantiate this review with my experiences. A couple of days after coming home from holiday, I found I could no longer use my debit card in the ATMs. Enquiring as to the reason, I found that Barclays had stopped it due to suspicious activity. Someone had used my details to spend over £3k on Australia in various stores. They put a block on it when someone tried to place a single transaction for £3.5k on it.

As I've never been to Australia and was at work in London on the days the purchases were made, Barclays was very cooperative in helping me resolve the matter. I had to identify which were illegal transactions and they investigated and refunded all the money that was taken. I found them to be helpful and cooperative throughout. As the money was taken from my debit card rather than my credit card, I was scared I would never see that money again. I have to give Barclays credit for the way they handled it.

I have had other significant issues and Barcalys have always come through and helped resolve the matter with good customer care. It's the smaller issues that they tend to be a little backwards in helping that makes them an annoying bank.

Aslong as Barclays provide me with the same level of service when major issues happen again which I am sure they will, I will remain their customer.
