Decided to make some phone calls to get some other quotes. I was amazed by the number of insurance brokers advertising, many of them open until 10pm and offering instant cover.

Phoned about 6 and very suprised that Barclay's came up with the lowest quote with the same benefits as the competition. Their quote was £120 lower than Eagle Star, cover was arranged over the phone with forms to follow.
It's always worth phoning around when your renewal notice comes, provided you stick to reputable insurers you can't lose.

Good Comprehensive Cover
The cover given was similar to others and the excess I chose was less
than I had before.
It covers all the usual comprehensive including Medical expenses, very important now Labour are seeking accident victims to pay emergency medical costs..
Foreign use . Covers the minimum required abroad
Windows, however there is a £50 ... ...Legal Fees & Expenses
Only disadvantages Extra charge if want to pay by instalments and the policy comes on several A3 sheets, not joined like most
others. A slight inconvenience if you are untidy like me.
As to claims service.... Luckily touch wood I have not had to use it. ...

...companies one of which was Barclays direct. Two of the companies refused to deal with the car because it does not have a Thatcham approved alarm, although it does have a 1993 factory fitted Mercedes alarm which functions well. Barclays was able to undercut the renewal premium and include fully comprehensive RAC cover and cover for all windows for the same price.
