I have been trading shares on line for about 2 years and have always used Barclays paper shares system with only a few minor problems. on the 19/08/00 I applied to have my portfolio on line with Barclay. I sent all my certs off & signed all the forms.after a few weeks about half my shares were online but some were not I phoned there help desk and was told that because it was an irish company it would take 2 weeks longer. I waited 2 weeks & phoned again and was told the same thing that it would take another 2 weeks, when I told them that that was what i was told before she said she would look into it and phone me back. The next day I had heard nothing so I phoned again, the man this time said he would check his system after keeping me waiting for 20 mins said that it was not Barclays fault & I would just have to wait. I said how long he said he did not know. I the asked if he could chase it up hes said he could not & i would have to wait. end of conversation. I have now written to them complaining & will post again with the reply.

this was 6 years ago. i know. but really what part of "its not barclays fault. we need to wait" dont you understand? people seem to think shares go into a portfolio at the flick of a switch. do you people have any idea what is involved in moving shares from a certificated holding to an electronic holding? how many forms need to be signed and sent to various diffrent people? in diffrent countries with diffrent processes. its in barclays interest to have the shares in the portfolio as soon as possible.
Advantages: 2 weeks credit, low maximum charge, get a quote prior to buy/sell. Disadvantages: need day time internet access, fairly slow to load from internet, no portfolio capability
