This makes such refreshing change from my usual diet coke or dietirn-bru. It does a great job washing down a quick sandwich before returning to the pressures of work! I purchase Red Kola whenever I pop into Sainsbury’s Central for a spot of lunch which is once or twice a week. This costs me 49p per can. The soft drinks machine at work only stocks Coca Cola products like Sprite, Coke and Fanta. That would perhaps explain the big Coke logo on the front of the machine eh!
Let me tell you more.......
~~The Can~~
The can is your normal 330ml size can and is very easy to notice on the supermarket shelf. The can is black. In bold capitals the word RED is on the front and back of the can and funnily enough the word RED is red in colour. Just above the letter E of the RED is the BARR logo which is quite small but not small enough you wouldn’t notice it!. Under the E & D in yellow writing is the word Kola. Very simple yet very effective eye catching packaging. Between the two RED's on each side of the can all the info you could ever need is provided! This includes a list of full ingredients with the main two being carbonated water and sugar! Details of the Barr’s website and address are also provided.
~~The drink~~
Once you pull back that ring pull you are greeted with a very sweet, and to me, pleasant, smell of the Red Kola! If you drink this straight from the can you will not be aware the vivid scary colour of this drink!
If you pour you drink into a clear glass you will soon see that this is just like any carbonated drink and will bubble away nicely in the glass. You will also see that the colour of this drink is luminous RED!!! It cries out E numbers at you!
~~The Taste~~
This is tricky! How can I explain the taste to you? All I can say is it is sweet tasting and “fruity” for want of a better word! What I mean by that comment is that I don’t know what fruit it does taste like!! I guess it’s just a mixture. Barr’s advise on the side of the can that this is a fruit & cola drink. I couldn’t really taste any cola flavours! The sweetness reminds me of the sweetness of American Cream Soda. I love the taste of this Red Kola simply because its different to any other drink and quenches my thirst with ease.
~~ Bad Points~~
One downside to this drink is that I have yet to find it in a diet variety.
No calorie count on the can suggests only one thing to me that it will be just as fattening as regular Coke – if not more!
Lots of flavourings and E numbers involved in making such a drink
Barr’s point out on the can that if this drink is spilt it may stain.
~~Good Points~~
This is different to anything else and very refreshing
Made by the company who produces Irn Bru and put Scotland on the map!!
~~My thoughts~~
As you can tell the bad points outweigh the good points so 2 stars for this drink even though I love it!
This tastes just like Kola Cubes!! Does anyone remember those??
