I tend not to wear nail varnish much these days as it seems to be such a hassle applying it and then having to remove it again before work. Having used Barry M eyeliners before but never their nail varnish, I decided to give one a try as they didn’t seem to expensive at £2.95 for a 12ml bottle. I was quite excited by the range and wanted a really unusual colour. I was eventually drawn to the yellow colour which was named “Acid yellow”. In the process of rationalising that I “needed” it, I managed to convince myself that if I wore bright yellow nail varnish on my upcoming three day break in London, it would make me stop and think everytime I handed over money due to grabbing my attention. I concluded that this would save me money in the long run! So I made my purchase.

Now I am not one for reading instructions and so I did not read the bottle before applying the nail varnish. Had I done so, I would have seen the very clear instruction to apply a base coat first to prevent staining! Applying the nail varnish was quite easy. The brush was long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle meaning that the last bit wont get wasted. The brush handle was an ideal size to hold and meant that sweeping the nail varnish on was a fairly quick and tidy affair. The first coat looked ok but it definitely needed a second coat to look its best. I was surprised at how quickly the first coat dried and applying the second was just as easy as the first. The nail varnish is the perfect consistency so I managed not to make any mess and didn’t get a single drop on my skin.
The layers blended well together and I was pleased with how smooth it looked on my nails. Not at all streaky which was impressive given the way I had applied it. I usually find that once I have applied nail varnish it never seems to dry 100% for a while and I end up with fingerprints, bumps, dents and all sorts on it within the first half hour but with this one I was pleasantly surprised as it stayed perfectly smooth.

The nail varnished stayed smooth for the first day and a half. After that I managed to knock a few small chips in it. However, these did not really notice as the nail varnish was such a bold colour. After a couple of days I touched up the nail varnish and it successfully filled in the chips and looked ok for another couple of days.
I liked how the nail varnish looked while I was wearing it and the colour was really bright and different to what I would normally wear. My idea that it would stop me handing over so much money on my visit to London was not as dumb as it sounds! With my nails so bold and bright it literally made me almost jump everytime I saw them!!
The consistency of this nail varnish does make it quite easy to touch up any chips or scratches as they appear. In terms of how it looked whilst on I cannot fault it as it.

Some nail varnish remover on a cotton wool pad quickly took of this nail varnish without too much effort. However it was at this point that I realised I should perhaps have followed the instructions and put a base coat on before applying the nail varnish. My nails were VERY badly stained yellow! I figured this would wear off after a few days but it didn’t! I tried soaking my nails in nail varnish remover but all efforts were futile. It has not been 7 weeks since I removed the nail varnish and most of the stained nails have grown out. It is only the tips left to grow out now. I really do wish that I had used a base coat as it was quite embarrassing having to walk round with yellow stained nails for several weeks! Although the instructions on the bottle are clear and so the only person to blame is myself.
If you want a reasonably priced, good quality nail varnish in a bright or unusual colour then I definitely recommend trying one from the Barry M range. I love the yellow one although in future I will definitely be applying a base coat first! I loved this product so much that I have since purchased two different colours from the range. ...a huge fan of these Barry m products, especiall the nail varnishes! I first spotted these about 2 years ago whilst looking for a fresh and bright looking yellow. I then found the whole Barry m range and absoloutley loved the wide range of bright and different/unique nail colours made on offer!
Price:
I think that the price is very reasonable at around £2.95 per bottle and each bottle lasting a year or more. They are mid-priced from what is on the ... ...own brand!
Avaliability:
These Barry M nail varnishes are avaliable at most cosmetic stores including boots and Superdrug, I find that Boots seem to have a larger range of colours on this product and also do offers like 2 for £5 whilst you can also collect points on your boots advantage card.

She was wearing a bright yellow colour which looked great on her dark skin - I had never seen such a rich, smooth looking colour so I had to know what make it was. When she told me it was Barry M I had never heard of it ... ...Superdrug to look for the Barry M section, which caught my eye almost immediately despite being right down the other end of the isle due to it's bright, eye-catching display. First of all I saw the 'dazzle dusts' which are gorgeous little pots of sparkly eye shadow but that's a whole other review!
