Beats Precision!
Review of Fender Standard Jazz Electric Bass by joeyerr

Advantages: Very versatile, excellent quality
Disadvantages: More expensive than precision

...I used to own a fender standard precision bass but the jazz completely beats that, being a lot more versatile and easier to play i prefer it, but still make sure you try both out! Mine is midnight wine with white pickguard, maple neck, and it is lovely, so give it a go and see what you think! ... Read review

A good entry level or advanced player's bass
Review of Epiphone EB-0 SG Style by neverfeargrahamishere

Advantages: deep sound, vintage, price
Disadvantages: makes noise against frets occasionaly

The Epiphone series is one of the decent "copy" makes of guitar and bass. This specific bass is a copy of a classic vintage guitar, which i cant for the life of me remember which one. I think it was a gibson. The bass (I own a cherry marble coloured one) looks exceptional. The back of the fretboard is also decorated in the same manner. The fretboard is ideally for younger bassists of ones with shorter armspans as it is only 30.5 inches long with ...
...which sounds very vintage. On the dials on the bass' body, i would recommend keeping the tone on or close to 0 as thats where i have found the best sound, but that is just my preference. The deep tone this bass produces could make it ideal for rock or jazz music. It is also exceptional value, with mine costing £120 brand new from a few looks around google. ... Read review

Classy bass for the price
Review of Yamaha RBX170 Bass Guitar by StrictlySpeaking

Advantages: build quality, price, tone
Disadvantages: bass string buzz, cheap knobs

...J Pickups. 4-String Bass. Yamaha are known for solidly built guitars products for the price and the Yamaha RBX170 Bass Guitar is no different. Feels well made. Lovely warm tone that sounds better than low-end squiers and is a class above Encore basses. Is the perfect option for beginners. Only negatives i can think of are that there is higher than average buzz when playing the bass string and the knobs seem rather cheap. As with all basses, its ... Read review

Tremendous bass-playing experience
Review of Fender Jazz Bass 24 by Wogson

Advantages: Great action, great sound, great looks and feel
Disadvantages: Price, possibly, plus need to change 9 volt battery quite often, or its dead

I have played Fender Jazz Bass guitars since the late 60's (owned an original 60's USA Jazz back then and sooo wish I had never sold it....took a lot of gigs to pay off the hire purchase cost!). When I bought that one, I tried a direct comparison with Rickenbacker and Gibson equivalents through the same amp system and there was simply no comparison. I bought this version of their classic bass in December 07 and it has entirely proven to me that they ... Read review

The Daddy Of All Bass
Review of Rickenbacker 4003 Electric Bass by WMRichardson

Advantages: Just about everything
Disadvantages: The iniablity to be satisfied with another bass after playing this.

Rickenbacker began making basses back in the 1950's and since then has been saw as one of the most distinctive looking and sounding electric bass guitars in history. As far as basses go it is the king of sustain aided by through neck construction, making those bottom end notes shake the house. This bass has been used by the best players throughout time, Paul Mccartney of the Beatles and Rodger Waters of Pink Floyd were early users of the rickenbacker. ...
...the music scene, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols use dit in the Punk era and it has also been used by bands such as Motorhead and Metallica. One of the most noticeable features of this bass is the double jack output, which eneables you to get the most of the lower (brighter sounding) pickup and the higher (bassier) pickup. I have owned this bass for 3 years and would never revert to a different bass again. It is smooth to play and has never failed ... Read review
