Classy bass for the price
Review of Yamaha RBX170 Bass Guitar by
StrictlySpeaking
Advantages: build quality, price, tone
Disadvantages: bass string buzz, cheap knobs
...J Pickups. 4-String Bass.
Yamaha are known for solidly built guitars products for the price and the Yamaha RBX170 Bass Guitar is no different. Feels well made.
Lovely warm tone that sounds better than low-end squiers and is a class above Encore basses. Is the perfect option for beginners.
Only negatives i can think of are that there is higher than average buzz when playing the bass string and the knobs seem rather cheap.
As with all basses, its ...

TRB5PII - Yamaha gives experts some excellence
Review of Yamaha TRB5PII 5-String Electric Bass by
phatman5000
Advantages: Warm, Beautiful, Impressive
Disadvantages: Afraid to drop it!
...this one.
Introducing the Yamaha TRB5II.
Two words describe this guitar. HOLY PANTS. This guitar is what jazz is all about. Sporting the hefty yet relatively peanuts £869 RRP price tag, this guitar is THE best bass guitar I have EVER gotten my little mittens on.
Enough laying down the absolute praise, let's get down to business. I bought this guitar for about £850 from my local guitar shop. It came with all the usual Yamaha stuff, including warrantee ... ...a thru-neck design, with dual Yamaha humbucker pickups to really blast past the rest of the band if need be, giving you more growl and less noise. The guitar has an amazing 6 knobs!! Now, I have never been one to know what all these knobs do, so I am going to say that there is a volume control, a tone control and "the 4 other ones", which control the mix. You can really experiment with these controls, and the black studio-style knobs supplied make ...

Punchy But Subtle Sound On A Budget
Review of Yamaha RBX260 Electric Bass by
pesley
Advantages: Lightweight, good playability, excellent for both beginner and pro alike, durable
Disadvantages: Limited tone control without a good amp EQ
...It is, as is most Yamaha music equipment, of good quality construction, and if you pair it with Rotosound Flatwounds you can get a great sound. It is excellent to learn on, excellent to gig with, and I especially like the ease of experienced techniques such as slap and tapping, both of which I have learnt on this bass. The 24 frets do come into their own here as well, due to the narrow neck, and deep cutaway on the lower horn. An excellent improvisational ... ...basses end up with a muggy sound, the notes getting lost. With a good setup I can hear everything I play (including those bum notes!). It is also quite responsive to any effects I have used, including wah pedals, crunch/distortion pedals, chorus, flange, pitchshifter, envelope filters...all give a warm clear sound through this bass.
My only gripe with this bass is that the passive controls are limited, but if this is put through a reasonable amp ...

These strings were made for playing
Review of Yamaha TRB5 Electric Bass by
Saul_Walker
Advantages: Beautiful guitar, responds to all playing styles
Disadvantages: expensive
...I’m talking about is the Yamaha TRB5, and what a superb use of wood it is. I’d always been a bit sceptical about Yamaha guitar products, after all they almost build anything on the UK market from Motorcycles to Toilet seats (not really-only Joking), but still you can’t expect it to make better products than those companies solely devoted to the manufacture of musical instruments. So when I actually got to test ‘drive’ ... ...on colour and shape, so Yamaha have accommodated this by providing 4 sumptuous colours in a wood grain effect (I’m starting to sound like Lord Llewlyn Bowen?? Of Changing Rooms). The colours are Cherry Sunburst (mine), Amber Satin, Charcoal Grey and Blue Satin. The shape can be described as a mixture of Drew Barrymore and the new Jaguar S-type (sorry I can’t be more precise).
The knobs, bridge and lead socket are all solid brass giving ...

Yamaha RBX 460 - mid-priced heaven!
Review of Yamaha RBX460 Electric Bass by
phatman5000
Advantages: Excellent tone, attractive, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Customer support quite tedious
...years, and recently bought a Yamaha RBX 460 in a grain red as a rock bass. I expected it to be warm, colourful and high quality, and boy did Yamaha deliver!
The RBX 460 is a guitar which will quite willingly be whatever you want it to be. It has the impact and shape to make it a serious rock bass, and has the style and sound quality to contend with the Jazz giants. Yamaha are a company who excel at excelling. It seems that anything they do, they ... ...maple neck is of typical Yamaha quality. Its gold hardware makes it stylish and the guitar looks 3 times as expensive as it actually is.
The RBX 460 has 24 frets, and a rosewood fretboard. The hardware lineup Includes passive P and J-style pickups and controls for master volume, master tone and mix. All of which is excellent quality; I have never had to alter a single thing on any of my Yamaha basses.
One noteworthy attribute of this bass is its ...
