Ah finally I can write an opinion on my favourite sweets of all time- Bassett's Pear drops. Now I have to say I only tried these recently on the reccomendation of a friend, simply because I hate pear so I didn't think I'd like them, BUT i tried anyway. So glad, so glad.

If any of you have ever done the experiment in Chemistry at school where you make what are known as 'Esters' then you'll have some idea of what these are like. quite honestly that was a gooooood ... ...pinky yello sky behind. The Bassett's logo is prominent in bright red across the top of the pack.
The reverse of the packet is pink. All the information is on there, including a sign telling you that "this product was previously known as Pascall Pear Drops". It might just be me but frankly I feel this notice is slightly random and maybe a little unnecessary? Well I guess it might be useful to somebody...

Advantages: They taste really nice and have a unique flavour Disadvantages: Too many does make you feel a bit...icky
Before I get started, there's just one point I'd like to make about pear drops........they don't actually taste of pears! Or do they? :S
Pear drops - the outline
Pear drops come in two colours: pink or yellow. Apparently, Northern pear drops are both colours in the same sweet. They are a traditional hard boiled sweet and loved by many. I bought them from a shop where you weigh your own in a paper bag, but I've seen them now pre-packed in plastic ... ...have eaten pear drops since I was little. They remain my favourite hard boiled sweet. I'm not really sure why. It may be that distinctive smell that many recognise as 'pear drops'. It could be that in my opinion, they don't taste anything of pears. Having a sweet taste and rough texture which becomes smooth after sucking the sweet for a while could be the reason. I don't know.
