Advantages Tasty chicken flavour
Disadvantages Too thin, not filling at all
I thought i would try these batchelors cup a soup's when they were on offer in tescos 2 boxes for £1. I bought chicken and vegetable, and chicken and leek. I thought for 50p a box, and 5 sachets in each box, this works out at only 10p for each soup!
From the look on the picture, these look like the soups have chunky pieces of food in them, this is not what they are like! I thought one of these would be ok for my dinner one day at work! So i made my soup and it was just like having a drink, not like having a meal at all! The soup is so thin, there is no thickness to it at all. It is basically just a chicken flavoured drink, it is hardly soup at all!I had my soup for dinner, instead of my usual sandwich, and i was starving half an hour later! I think these soups are great to have aswell as your sandwich but not on there own as they are not filling at all!
Even though they are so thin and just like liquid, they do have a lot of flavour. They tasted strongly of chicken, but the vegetables in there were horrible! They were quite hard and chewy in the chicken and vegetable one. In the chicken and leek one, there were hundreds of tiny bits of leek all floating on the top and it looked horrible, i had to scoop the leek all off the top to see the actual soup.I was not impressed really with these soups, i think chicken flavour on its own would be nice, as the chicken flavour in the two soups i bought was actually really nice.
I suppose these are handy to keep at work to go with your salad or sandwiches, they certainly warm you up. I tried dipping bread in mine and the bread just went so soggy, it was just like dipping it into a mug of water, it was disgusting! All you need to do to make these, is pour the contents of the sachet in a mug, add boiling water and stir it.
Each sachet of soup only contains 97 calories, but as these are not a meal, they are just an extra 97 calories you are adding on top of your meal if you have one. These cup a soups come in loads of different flavours, including tomato, oxtail and mushroom. They are free from artificial colours and preservatives.
I wont be buying these again, but i will use up the ones i have already got as they have a nice chicken flavour, and are great for a really cold day.I wouldnt recommend anyone to have these as a meal as they are not food it is just a drink! Nice flavour, easy to make and cheap, but just not for me!
