In the summer of the year 2000 I had discovered the Bath & Body Works shops in USA where I had a pleasant shopping experience. It's similar to the UK's Body Shop. So I was surprised to come across this store on my travels yesterday in UK!! in Manchester at the Trafford Centre!!
The Bath & Body Works is part of the "Intimate Brands Group" and is the leading specialty retailer of beauty and personal care products through Bath & Body Works and Victoria's Secret brands. This shop offers the ultimate in a range of aromatherapy, bath products, hair care, men's line, personal and home fragrance collections, face and foot care lines, personal care and home accessories. They also do a wonderful range of Candles from The White Candle Barn Company.
The Bath & Body Works shop seems to offer up to date product lines which reflects a philosophy of offering natural ingredients in formulations that are affordably priced for the whole family to enjoy. All Bath & Body Works products contain herbal, fruit and vegetable ingredients grown on farms "in America's heartland". There are over 1000 Bath & Body Work stores throughout USA and only 5 in the UK, out of which one is in Manchester and one in London, I think.
The difference at this shop is you are greeted by an assistant (mine was dressed as a fairy yesterday!!) and she will help and guide you round the various categories. There are loads of testers in stores and a sink where you can wash off all those different aromas and flavours. The shop has a Bath & Body Works wall mural at the back of the store. This has a colourful, scenic photograph that will change for each of the four seasons. It is here where staff will be more than happy to offer a FREE colourful gift wrapping service throughout the year!!
The items are reasonably priced from £1.30 upwards for small candles, or raspberry anti-bacterial hand lotion for £3.00 for example. They always seem to have "3 for 2 offers" in Store also. So I chose this opportunity to pick up one of my favourite blends there; from the Warm Vanilla range, shower gel, body lotions and potions and silkening Salt Scrub, most cost £5 and the cheapest one is free!
There were a lot of seasonal aromas and candles around too such as a brown toffee cloured candle called "kitchen spice" which smells sweet, a mix of sticky toffee and cinammon..kind of a home baking smell. There were other less sweet aromas around too such as Lemon Sorbet, French Vanilla, Citrus etc..
They have already started their sale on Christmas/seasonal brands on 23rd Dec and from 27th Dec will have most of there standard range in the sale, so it may be worth a visit if there's one near you!! Even otherwise the prices are reasonable and it's definitely handy to have stores in the UK too, even if you don't buy you can always smell and test endlessly...
I shall go and light that Warm Vanilla candle now

update Bath & BodyWorks : 2007 I have received some questions and comments on this review and would like to add that there no longer appears to be a Bath & BodyWorks shop in Manchester. I'm not sure if there are anymore UK locations left perhaps US bath & Bodyworks have decided to close all international outlets. Contact and check http://www.bathandbodyworks.com for latest US and non-US details.
This review was written about 7 years ago, a time when UK ciao.com reviews were shorter and to the point, the minimum word count was much lower so if you are a post-2003 member please bear this in mind as its not all quantity of words, or amount of community contact/clicks when rating/commenting. Several years ago ciao's emphasis was more on actual consumer experience at the time, rather than community click for click. Thank you]
