Good lord, am I still to be found loitering under that tree?? I remember the book...the lost honour of katherina blum by Heinrich Boll: jolly good, but please believe me that it hasn't taken me the last trillion years to read it! Hello all Kx

Do you remember the good ol’ days when a trip to purchase shampoo resulted in a purchase of a concoction for either “Dry”, “Normal” or the dreaded “Greasy” hair? It may have been simple, in fact it may not have covered all of our oh-so-demanding consumer requirements but for all that it was certainly quick: decide which one you are and then chose from the three or four different brands catering to that hair type.
How different things are today. My recent trip to Boots had me bemused in the aisle for what felt like eons as I studied the variations now available.
I’ve always been of the heaven-forefend “greasy” variety. Of course the word is so unattractive that you can’t actually find anything that uses this term anymore but I generally go for that stuff that looks as if its industrial-strength hair-stripper and hope
for the best. I still find that I’m looking rather shabby by the back end of any 24 hour period.
I had never heard of this concept before and being a sucker for anything unusual I paid my £1.99 for the meagre 150mls spray can, and had images of me actually managing to go for more than about 15 hours without the need for another wet shampoo – so can I?
THE CAN
…is mostly green. In fact it is exactly like that photo at the top. Rather old-fashioned looking I thought but then who really cares, as long as it does what it says?
WHAT IT SAYS
…is that it “Refreshes and revitalises hair between washes.” Oh, and that it “leaves hair feeling clean, fragrant and full of body.” Which would be nice: let’s hope it does just that eh?
DOING JUST THAT
…is not very complicated. It is necessary to shake the can rather vigorously and then spray at an approximate distance of 30cm onto the hair in question. This results in a slight grey look as the white powder settles. Massage it in with your fingers and leave it alone for a few minutes. Finally brush it out with a good hard brush.
A GOOD HARD BRUSH
…doesn’t result in any nasty stuff coming out of your hair, the dry shampoo just seems to disappear. I guess I was imagining that this was just some sort of talc-in-a-tin, which makes me wonder just what it is made of.
JUST WHAT IT IS MADE OF
…remains pretty much a mystery even when you’ve read the instructions, or at least it does for me. The main ingredients appear to be suspiciously to do with the spray action (Butane, Isobutane) but reading further down the list it is the rice starch which stands out – can it really work?
CAN IT REALLY WORK
Maybe. Maybe it works on other types of hair. Maybe it works if you really BELIEVE it will work.
Let me just have another wee glance at those claims and take them in order –
CLEAN – no I can honestly say that my hair never feels any cleaner when I use this.
FRAGRANT – well yes I grudgingly suppose so. During the process and for some hours afterwards I can smell this stuff and it does smell good – one of those clean smells y’know? Not flowery or anything, just kinda clean.
FULL OF BODY – ummm no, sorry. My hair feels no different whatsoever after an application of this dry shampoo.
I’ve noticed writing this op that nowhere does this shampoo claim to make your hair look better in any way, and just for the record, it doesn’t.
I have dry shampooed my hair to near extinction now just to make sure that I haven’t been doing anything wrong. I’ve left it in longer than recommended, I’ve put more in and I’ve put less in each time but each application has at least one thing in common: it simply never works on my hair. I do give it one star rating, earned for the rather nice smell.
Ho-hum
La-di-dah
Sorry I can't come out tonight...I'm washing my hair.

PS I lied in the rating below - Batiste Dry Shampoo is for all hair types, but the ratings didn't have that option!

Hilarious review. I've just sprayed my head with the Lee Stafford version of this and it is itching like mad so now I've got to wash it - the whole point of using it was so I DIDN'T have to wash it!!

Great review. If you have bother with your hair re-greasing quickly you should try a shampoo for dry hair. Yes it sounds backwards, my hair dresser recomended it to me and vert sceptically I tried it. If you're stripping your hair with shampoos for greasy hair then it'll just act to grease up again. If you don't stip it as much the levels of secretions reduce. Well it worked for me and only took a few days, I've gone from a twice a day washer to an every other day girl!
