Here’s the scenario: You’ve slept through your alarm. You wake up in a panic realizing you were supposed to be somewhere an hour ago. You leap out of bed, quickly throwing on whatever clothes you can find. You tell yourself you can do without washing properly, just this once.
Until you look in the mirror.
Because it’s then you realise that your hair looks like it's been soaking in a greasy chip pan all night.
I hate having greasy hair. Everyone always tells me that if I stopped washing it every day, it would stop getting greasy so quickly. It’s a vicious circle, apparently. I only wash it every day because it gets greasy so quickly, but it only gets greasy so quickly because I wash it every day. Sometimes it’s very inconvenient, finding a spare hour every day to wash/blow dry/straighten
my hair. But luckily I have a solution to all those who can empathise with my greasy hair situation. Batiste Dry Shampoo.
This product comes in a green can similar to a can of hair spray. The design is quite simple and old-fashioned which automatically made me have doubts about buying it but it was recommended by a friend with great looking hair so I took the risk. The can I have here is 200ml (although this includes 1/3 extra free). It cost me the bargain price of £1.99 from Superdrug. It can be found on the shelf next to the regular shampoos.
The idea behind this shampoo is that you use it as an ‘in-between shampoo’. For example, this morning when I woke up with greasy hair. I washed it yesterday, I’ll wash it tomorrow, but today I just couldn’t be bothered. It was too sunny to waste time washing. That’s where the dry shampoo comes in. What you do, is spray it all over your hair. This will leave you looking like you’ve been rolling around in dust all day. So not a good look. But the spray does resemble dust. Then you massage it in. Which I admit is quite scary because I don’t like messing around with my hair too much and rubbing dust into it isn’t something I would normally consider. But trust me on this one. So you rub it in, then brush it out. It’s VERY important you don’t forget the ‘brush it out’ stage, for obvious reasons. You don’t want to be walking around with dust in your hair all day.
But does it work?
It claims on the can to leave your hair ‘feeling clean, fragrant and full of body’. Well, to be honest I can’t say that it leaves my hair feeling clean. It certainly leaves it LOOKING clean(er), clean enough to let me walk down the street without covering my head with a paper bag anyway. It doesn’t help with the fact that I KNOW my hair is still greasy and dirty, and I’d rather feel clean. It definitely doesn’t leave my hair looking as good as it would with a proper shampoo, but I don’t think that’s the point. Sometimes, though, if you’re as lazy as me or just have no time to wash your hair, just being able to appear as if you have clean hair is good enough.
I suppose it does leave my hair fragrant. The smell is a bit strange, I’m not sure what it smells of. That’s not to say that it’s unpleasant, it’s actually quite nice unless you spray it in a small closed room and then, take it from me, you’ll find yourself gasping for air. It’s not something I’d particularly like my hair to smell of but it’s easily covered up with perfume or hair spray or whatever, and it’s not too strong in the first place.
I do find that this shampoo does leave my hair full of body. Well, maybe ‘FULL’ is going a bit too far, but there’s definitely SOME body there. When my hair isn’t washed for a day it goes really flat and limp, and spraying it with dry shampoo does lift it up a bit.
The longest I’ve used this shampoo was for a few days before resorting back to regular shampoo. It did keep my hair looking passable for that time and I was happy with the result. I don’t use it unless it’s an emergency though, and it’s definitely not a replacement for normal shampoo. I’d imagine it would be particularly useful for people who were travelling or for some other reason couldn’t wash their hair properly.
Although Batiste Dry Shampoo has some bad points, it will still always be a constant feature on my dressing table. It’s an essential for bad hair day emergencies, and believe me I have plenty of those. I’d recommend it to all those greasy-haired people who are too lazy or too busy to wash their hair as often as they should.

I have a can of this at home and have found it comes in useful if I can't get to wash my hair, I also used it when I was in hospital for a week when I couldn't wash it even though I wanted to.
