I've been using Batiste Dry Shampoo since I was a teenager, and that's going back quite a few years and it's one staple in my emergency kit for 'bad hair' days. It comes in a green can, a little bit smaller than a can of hairspray and I usually buy it from my local Sainsbury's for £1.99 for a 150ml can. Occasionally, I've been able to get it on special offer on, 'buy one get one free', but as I use it fairly infrequently, I find one tin usually lasts me quite a long time.
The can states quite clearly what it's designed to do, i.e. 'refreshes and revitalises hair between washes', or, in other words, for those of us
who sometimes can't be bothered with the hassle of having to wash their hair or are in too much of a hurry and have better things to do. I have extremely greasy hair and find I have to wash it every day. If I miss one day I look a complete fright and my hair will be plastered to my head with grease - not a pleasant sight!
For me, this stuff is a godsend. It's strange stuff to use, especially if you've not used it before. You have to shake the can REALLY well before each spray, as the ingredients won't have the desired effect if you don't. You have to hold the tine approximately ten to twelve inches from your head and blast the roots. It's a strange sensation as I always find the contents feel really cold on my scalp. You go all around your head making sure all the greasy bits are covered. Afterwards, your hair looks like someone threw a bag of flour over your head, so it's very important to rub it into the scalp well and finish off by brushing, but not too much, as this will disperse the grease again.
Afterwards, I find there is a dramatic difference to the way in which my hair looks. The grease has gone and my hair certainly looks a lot lot cleaner and even has more body! It has a pleasant, fresh smell, which I like. Probably the only downside is that although my hair LOOKS clean, I always know I've 'cheated' and my hair is still greasy underneath! It's fairly easy to wash out when you next shampoo your hair, although I wouldn't personally recommend using this product for more than a few days as I have found from personal experience that if I use it for any longer it actually builds up on the scalp and I have to wash my hair several times before I actually get rid if the residue. I once used this stuff for a whole week whilst I was on a camping trip in Wales with my family. By the time I got home, my hair was in a bit of a sorry state - I was unable to tell while I was away as I hadn't taken a mirror with me, so I got a bit of a shock when I got back!!
Also, I have blond hair and it works fine for me. My daughter, on the other hand, has very dark locks, and this product is just no good for her hair colour. On blond hair there are no tell-tale white marks, but for anyone who has a darker shade of hair, it doesn't matter how well it's rubbed in, you still get the flour-head look. Not good! Lately, Batiste has brought out a 'Tropical' range. I tried this fairly recently, but I hate the overpowering smell of coconut. It actually made me feel nauseous. My hairdresser has been looking for this for some time, so I gave it to her and she loves it - and has been recommending it to her customers, I believe!
I would definitely recommend Batiste for the odd occasion when either you can't be bothered to wash your hair and want a 'day off', or between washes, when you want to give your hair more volume and added bounce. It's an excellent product to take away with you on holiday (so long as you don't use it too long-term) and it has a really lovely fresh smell. The only other problem I occasionally have with this product is that it can be quite difficult to find. Tesco don't sell it where I live and it's rarely available at my local Boots. The place I usually get it from is Sainsbury's, although again I do sometimes still l have problems in finding it there. If you do find it though, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go!
