Advantages: Excellent storyline and artwork Disadvantages: Price
...Alan Moore is regarded as one of the greatest comic book writers around today, and with good reason. His storylines are consistently compelling, brilliantly readable, and also contain meanings beyond the simple events of the plot.
For me, V For Vendetta is the pinnacle of all these characteristics. It is the story of a mysterious and enigmatic character, V, set in a dystopian future similar to George Orwell's 1984 Big Brother-ruled society. He takes in a young woman, destroyed by society and disbelieving in the government, to be his protege as a revolutionary, and they begin their work, fighting against the English government, ruled by a man with a love of justice. Justice in this case is, in fact, Justice, the famous statue on the roof of the Old Bailey, a symbol which the ruler is in love, and obsessed with.

...Out of all the graphic novels that I own this has to be my favourite, Frank Miller single-handily brought Batman from the camp 1960’s up to date in the mid 80’s with a hard edge and a violent malevolent side that is now associated with Batman. This novel was the definitely the inspiration for the Tim Burton’s Batman film and you can see why. The illustrations to accompany the story are excellent and help portray the gritty near future where Batman, who is now ageing and only just holding out against the warring street gangs which prevail in Gotham, is approaching the end of his crime fighting. If you have never read this book I would highly recommend it, as it is a very good read and can be enjoyed by anyone, but I recommend an adult audience....
