Advantages Advantages Batman... but slightly different.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very violent!

It’s hard to believe this was originally released in 1988, the story is one that sticks in your mind with regards to Batman and what his close friends are put through by The Joker, however with numerous re-prints and the occasional Special Edition released over the last 24 years, the book is still a good read. The story is disturbing to say the least, it is a fresh approach as to what happens as the story unfolds and rather than have the Joker hatch a plan by robbing banks, this time it’s something that is far more cerebral in terms of what he wants to gain. The curiosity of The Joker ensures ... more

Advantages Advantages New territory for Batman.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Adult reading.

I’ve always said that things in the comic world happen for a reason and a Batman graphic novel called The Killing Joke had an immediate impact to DC and the characters linked to it. Originally released in 1988 to an audience that were still at the early stages of accepting graphic novels, the book itself has been re-printed a number of times to the extent that deluxe hardback printings of the book have been released, each printing showing the writing and artistic qualities of those involved. The plot of the story is simple, The Joker wants to see what it would take for a man to simply snap, or ... more

Advantages Advantages An interesting look at the world of Batman

Disadvantages Disadvantages Short and possibly now out of print

Writer - Alan Moore (Watchmen, Swamp Thing, League of Extrordinary Gentlemen) Artist - Brian Bolland ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++ Plot The plot to this short one off graphic novel is simple. The Joker has escaped from Arkham Asylum, intent of causing pain and suffering on one man. Only this time it isn't the man you would think it is. Written by the legendary Alan Moore, it bears all the hallmarks of some of his longer works. Small twists in the understood history, small chinks in the armour of a hero, even managing to show sympathy for the psychotics of the Joker Without revealing ... more

Advantages Advantages great storytelling, great art, great characters

Disadvantages Disadvantages discontinued from what I hear

One of the most compelling origins for one of the most infamous comic book villians of all time, Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, provides a heartbreaking answer to the history and motivations behind the Joker. If you haven't already read it, I am hesitant to give too much about this groundbreaking graphic novel's plot away. I will, however, go so far as to say that the Joker was once all too human and that his issues with Batman go far deeper than just a need to kill Gotham's Dark Knight. The Joker doesn't want to only kill his nemesis but to drag him into the insanity and hell that a series of ... more

Advantages Advantages A action packed comic book with a bit of humour

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Out of print

This comic book about Batman represents one of Batman's greatest enemies; The Joker. The Joker has tried time over time to get rid of Batman, but Batman has always triumphed over Joker. However, Joker decides to come up with a plan in order to get rid of the caped crusader once and for all. A plan that might be considered hilarious (only to the Joker that is), but a plan that might work for once. However, as though Joker assumed that his plan will finally defeat Batman once and for all, at the end Joker is defeated and Batman triumphs again over evil. I think that this comic book about Batman ... more
