Disadvantages: Very very noisy and doesn't extract steam

...I bought this hood to install over the hob to extract steam from pans and food odours from the kitchen. However, I noticed that it didn't seem to extract steam very well and even with only boiling one pan, the steam condenses on the glass and steel underneath the hood and then drips off onto the hob and worktop. It has made the hood rusty underneath too (even though it's stainless steel!) Rang Baumatic and they told me that their hoods are only made to extract odours, not steam. Checked the hand book, yep, that's exactly what it says. Total waste of money, as I expected any cooker hood designed to go over a hob would extract steam from pans, otherwise what's the point?... Advantages: Flexibility of flue lengths, design and build quality.

...This is a good bit of kit, I was looking for a hood of curved glass design that had a short flue option, unless you live in London or a mansion with high ceilings you tend to have to cut these things to size, with the baumatic I could accommodate the minimum distance from hob to hood that you require. When the flue is not extended with the flue extension piece it achieves 540mm, this is a perfect height for my kitchen, and this way I didn't have to take the saw to it. The hood looks stunning in brushed steel with the curved glass sparkling from the reflection of the two 20 Watt lights fitted below. The controls are electronic easy touch type that control the three fan speeds and the lights. Advantages: free extended warranty - reasonable price
Disadvantages: bad motors on earlier models, service engineers might cut corners.

...Bought as part of an installed kitchen, it's 3 fan speed is adequite but noisy, mine is set to circulating - as we have no external extraction. It will cut out due to overheating - so we have to have the kitchen window slightly ajar for feed cold air to the system - I guess this is smart - but a pain when you have 5 gas rings, with 5 boiling pans. The motor has failed 3 times and been replaced twice. The entire unit was replace on the 4th occasion. However the chimney arrived dented so we kept the original. Even so - we had a terrible rattle coming from the motor again - this was becouse the baumatic engineer had only installed it with ONE screw not TWO as required, It's a good looking unit - but noisey. Glad I've got the free extended warranty and the service department and engineers are very good - which they need to be !... Read review
