Review of "Beacon Street Collection, The - No Doubt"
This is one of my favourite No Doubt albums, along with the singles collection. Every track has something different. From the acoustic sound of Greener Pastures (track 5) to the fast, ska feel of Squeal (track 9). This CD has something for everybody. Brought out in 1995, The Beacon Street Collection has 10 tracks lasting over 40 minutes. Full of the phenomenal No Doubt ska-punk we have come to expect, only this album has some slightly more mellow songs...Track 1 - Open The Gate
This track, Written by the whole band, and Gwens brother is 3:40 in length. The singing and the music, as we have come to expect is outstanding.
Track 2 - Blue In The Face
This is similar to Open the gate; not one of No Doubts fastest, but still makes you want to skank. at 4:35, it is one of their longer songs, and doesn't show them at the best, but still an awesome song.
Getting faster now. Total hate is the closest No Doubt ever came to 'moshing' faster than the first on this album, it really gives them a chance to show off with fast music and lyrics. I like this song. It really gets stuck in your head. (3:18)
Track 4 - Stricken
Another upbeat song; Stricken gets in your head and makes you want to dance. A 'love song' with the slow and the faster No Doubt sytle we have grown to love. at 4:06, Stricken has everything you'd want.
Another outstanding song from No Doubt. Full of twists, this song takes Gwen through the breaking up part of a relationship. at 5:05, the longest song on the album it prepares you for the second half sufficiently well.
Track 6 - By The Way
at 4:29, this song continues the theme of the other songs on the album. With an outstanding guitar solo, and the amazing drumming we have come to know and love from No Doubt, This is yet another awesome song.
Taking a twist now, this song is faster than the others. The lyrics couldn't be better, and the opening guitar solo is great! At 4:47, this song is one of my favourites. With another guitar solo in the middle of the song. Snakes is a cut above the rest.
Track 8 - That's Just Me
With a mystical feel. This song has a really catchy chorus, and Gwen 'plays' her voice like an instrument. and the ska in No Doubt really shines through with the brass instruments in this song. (4:08)
My favourite song from this album. You will be singing this song all day, although only 2:38 in length, it will really give you a vibe that i'm sure you'll love. Opening with a good drum beat and fabulous instrumental to follow. The true ska influence in No doubt can really be heard in Squeal
Track 10 - Doghouse
The end of the album now, and a great end to a great album it is. With great lyrical power and really good use of instrumens. Doghouse, although 4:26 in length, the song has strong use of drums within it. One of the most upbeat on the album
