Where can I start? TY beanie babies are just so cute!! You can choose from a wide variety of animals and colours. There are cats, dogs, rabbits, fish and even ghosts and Christmas characters!! There are just so much more to select aswell... Once you see one of them, you'll want more and more and more!!!!!!!! They're good collectables and I just love them!
They are really soft, cute and cuddly. The older beanies can be very rare and are now classed as antiques. They can be sold on for alot of money, especially to great fans of these cute cuddly toys! I have one of the first ones made, which is a black and white dog, named 'Spot', but without the spot. This may seem strange, but they created a dog with a spot, and then one without. The one I have is rare though!! Confused...? Some designs have different colours and selections to choose from. Like if you had a bunny, it may be in yellow, white or blue.
The newer editions have a softer texture. Although some are now multi-coloured, which I don't like to much. I've stopped collecting them recently, as I already have 63 and they can be expensive. Some cost up to £8, but usually you pay £6 for them. They are good value for money, although some are over-priced, as I've already mentioned. If you collect them then add up how many you have by approximately £6, then then the total would be quite high. You may be quite shocked on how much you've actually spent, but I think it's worth it.
You can find them across the world, but in the UK, they are usually sitting in gift shops, waiting to be bought. Also, there are beanie fayres that sell them especially. Often you find adverts for these in your local newspaper or on lamposts when you're driving in the car.
At markets, they can be much cheaper, but beware of the fake ones!!! You have to be very careful, as some people make fake ones then sell them. You will find that the tags are slightly different, so you may like to research this before purchasing. I haven't come across any forgeries yet though, so don't let you put this off. All beanies contain a tag, usually attached to their ears. This contains information about when it was made, it's name, birthday and also a short poem. Without these tags, they are nearly worthless if you decide to sell them on. It is advised that you cut off the tags before giving to young children though (for safety reasons). Also, it is a good idea to buy plastic tag protectors to keep them in tip top condition.
Beanie babies are quite tough, as I've only had the tags come off of two of them. However, the toy itself is very strong and I haven't had any problems with that. Many of these have little accessories like a glittery bow, a tie or a logo badge to make them unique.
Finally, there are different sizes of TY beanies: Buddies are bigger and more cuddly, usually about £10. Teenies are tiny and good for a small child. they are about £3. Including, a massive beanie which was about £25 and you don't see them very often.
Also, another range by TY is Attics. These look like toys what your grandma would have had. They are more modern though, but are quite nice to collect. I would describe them as classic, because their colours are pastels and aren't too in your face!! There are so many more aswell, but I cannot mention them all, I'm afraid.
I would recommend these to the whole family really, but mainly age 6-14! These are really fun to collect...
