I used to collect beanie babies and have well over 200 sitting in boxes in various rooms. I stopped collecting them about 5 years ago, I just lost interest and I had no-where to store them. I used to spend ages, making lists of beanies I wanted and I had so many favourite's. I even hunted high and low for a beanie that was born on my birthday, (I did find one eventually!).
***WHAT ARE TY BEANIE BABIES/HISTORY*** A beanie baby is a small soft toy stuffed with polyurethane beads. They were created by a man called Ty Warner & his company Ty Inc. His company was founded in 1986, but it wasn't until 1993 that the first set of 9 beanies were created.
These
beanie were called: Brownie (a brown bear), Chocolate (A moose), Patti (Platypus), Flash (Dolphin), Pincers (Lobster), Legs (Frog), Splash (Orca Whale, Squealer (Pig) and Spot (Dog).
These original 9 beanies are highly collectable and sell for much more than their original purchase price.
Beanies were collected by adults and children and although they were mass produced, they were initially only available in limited supplies. Some designs were very limited creating panic amongst collectors who couldn't bear to have a gap in their collection.
Each beanie baby has a heart shaped swing tag attached to it, giving details such as birthday, name of the beanie and a little poem/rhyme about the beanie itself, and which generation it is from. If the tags were lost or cut off, this would significantly reduce the vale and price of the beanie. The beanies also had a tush tag which was a smaller at which had the name of the beanie and washing instructions.
***FAKES/COUNTERFEITS*** There are a high number of fake beanie babies around today and some are very hard to tell from the original. Signs that it might be a fake may include, colour difference on the heart swing tag, printing errors or mistakes, the toy may not be the correct colour, it may be over-stuffed and might have incorrect stitching, there could also be incorrect of spacing of the eyes.
***CAN I STILL GET HOLD OF BEANIE BABIES?*** Yes, ty beanie babies seem to be sold on ebay for a very good/cheap price than what they used to be. You may also find them in other toy shops, some as little as £2.00 each, which is quite distressing for collectors who paid high prices to get their hands on a special/rare beanie for their collection.
Beanie babies were once valued collector items but they aren't named as such now. They are more known now as a toy for children to play with.
***SELLING MY BEANIE BABIES*** I have over 200 beanies, some which were at least £30 each when they first came out and were rare. Now these once used to be rare beanies, no longer sell at this price, unless your lucky. I have looked on ebay at selling my collection, but I can't really compare to others, when they seem to be selling 10 beanies for about £3.00, or other shocking, cheap prices. Beanie babies, are really not very valuable anymore. I have sold a few of my beanie babies on ebay, but I am still left with hundreds!
You may find a shop or retailer, which may buy them off of you, if they are of course in mint condition. Mint condition would be no colour fading, swing tag still attached in brilliant condition, Dust free, smoke free, Tush tag still attached.
***OVERALL OPNION?*** These are great, cute little beanie toys for children and are great for collectors. Although as they aren't really worth anything any more, (not even some of the rarest ones), I personally wouldn't spend a fortune on collecting these toys and then being disappointed by how much your collection is or isn't worth.
I have over 200 beanie babies, and I got them all valued, bear in mind some beanies I paid over £20 each for them, and my collection was only worth about £180, which isn't a lot, considering I have collected these for over 3 years and looked especially for rare and unusual beanies.
i would recommend this product to people to buy their children as a cute little toy, but I definately wouldn't recommend people spending a fortune on them, just to collect them. They are good value for money now as you can get them very cheap.

This beanie alone cost about £30. (Spangle the bear)
