Have you ever wanted to know or even see how your favourite bedtime soft toy made? Well now you have the chance. Just visit the Bear Factory. It allows the customer to create their very own bears or cat or dog... oh just come along for a look.
The shop in Peterborough Queens Gate Centre is fun. This is my local store. The assistants are friendly and helpful and there is even a guest book by the door, so you can even write your own opinion!
The Bear Factory is a unique shop, which allows the customer to create his or her own soft toy. The assistants are willing to explain the process and give the customer a guided tour of the bear making process. I prefer to visit the store during the week, simply because it is quieter and there are fewer children there too. This is a handy tip if you are planning to give a toy for a child
The Toy Factory has outlets in Hamley’s of Regent Street, Milton Keynes, Southampton and Bristol. The Toy Factory has recently purchased the Toy Stack group of shops, so eight more outlets are also opening very soon.
**What makes these toys special**
The customer chooses their shell from the wide selection found in the shop. A voice box can be added and/or created to personalise the toy. The customer watches as the shell is filled with stuffing, a heart is chosen and stitched together. Once this process has been completed a birth certificate is created, even down to the date and time. The new toy is then homed/placed in a carrying case in the shape of a house (50p) to take home.
**Cost**
All the toys cost £14.99 to create. There are also clothes available to dress the soft toy in, such as Mortar Board and Gown, Flying Jacket, Rain Coat, Ballet Dress, to name but a few. The clothes range from £3.00 to £10.00 depending on what is chosen. We even brought passports for our two soft toys.
**Soft Toy**
Bears: Brown, Camel, Golden, Honey Distressed, Lemon, Ted the Taylor (with glasses Cow Cat (two types) Dog (two types) Monkey Pig Rabbit Tiger
My only complaint is that they do not do Elephants, but I am sure that that is only a matter of time before one is developed. So for the time being do I choose a bear, dog, cat or tiger for Shane?
**Update**
In the last couple of months an elephant and a horse has been added. There is also a spider.
You can also purchase a chair, bed or wardrobe to help make your new friend at home. These items are not cheap, a wardrobe will set you back £35.00!
So to finish my tale, Shane had a Tiger whom he named ‘Fliboy’ and I had an Elephant called ‘Flump’ They live in a little house and one is dressed in a flying jacket and the other in a mortar board and gown. Can you guess which suit belongs to my Elephant?

Review of Bear Factory (Shop)
Advantages: Undercover shopping, Modern, Mix of Designer Shops and High-Street Fashion. Disadvantages: Can Get Very Crowded on Weekends, You Have to Walk a Long Way Round to Go Up or Down to Next Level, Can get Quite Hot in Shops.
