Bear in the big blue house, a program I had never heard of until a neighbours son ranted and raved that he wanted it on! Now my son is pretty much the same, including at the weekend when it isn't on!
My son is 2 years old and sits absolutely captivated for 20 minutes every weekday morning from 8am until 8.20. Why?? The appearance of a seven foot bear and his friends, affectionately known as 'the guys'!
Bear in the big blue house is a Jim Henson Company creation, about the aforementioned friendly bear, who lives (unsurprisingly) in a big blue house, along with an assortment of pals. Ojo the small teddy bear (not sure of gender), tutter a bizzare (small) blue?? mouse, pip and pop, 2 of the craziest (purple) otters i have ever seen! not to mention, treelo a green (?) racoon, shadow a shadow girl that tells stories and lunar, bears best friend, who he always sings the goodbye song with.
The show always follows the same format, beginning with the Blue house song, and bear greeting and sniffing you to see what you have had for breakfast etc.
Then they have a set word for the day, such as the seasons, actions, letters,numbers and so on. The show always ends with bear telling lunar about his day and together they sing the goodbye song, which disturbingly I now find myself singing at odd moments!.
The show always includes within its format creativity, imagination and music to make learning fun and interesting.
Bear in the big blue house is shown Monday to Friday at 8am on channel 5 and i feel most definitely that it is one of their success shows, hardly surprising when you see that the show is created by the same company that gave us Sesame Street and The muppets.
Bear merchandise is also widely availiable now, in the form of books, videos, and soft toys, If you are looking for a birthday gift for a child from 18 months upwards, may I suggest something from the 'bears' house range, as it sure to go down a storm.
If you are a parent toying with the idea of buying a video of bears house, do it!! However be prepared to be singing odd,catchy little tunes!!!!
