This book was boring, I remember one time that I was reading this book and I fell asleep reading it and I had totally forgotten what I had read so I had to re-read 3 chapters which I wasn't too happy about. You may think that's the reason I didn't have much of an interest in this book, but to be quite honest I don't think this is the right book for me, it's more of an adventure/thriller ... ...never find out what this BEAST is until the very end, you laugh at yourself for making so many different and weird combinations of monster, I bet you a child will have a different combination every day until he/she finds out what it is.
I do recommend this book, and stop acting so surprised, but I more than likely recommend it to about 9 year olds, I think that this book would have suited me better when I was 9 but then again I cannot ... more
To be totally honest I don't know what to make of this book, it was really good, especially the story-line, I have to admit that, but I don't know what was wrong with this book, probably Ally Kennen's writing technique or something like that, I tried my best to not read it, which is kind of weird for me as I always love to finish a book, even if they are really rubbish! I am pondering upon whether I should attempt to read the sequel to this book, I really don't know. Anyhow, this book is written by Ally Kennen, he is a new author and has only released a few books; this book was his first book, and therefore could explain why I might not like the book, but then again I never said that about any other books before such as "The Historian" and Meg Cabot's first book. So to be totally honest I have no reason to dislike this book, but for some unknown reason I didn't like it!
The story-line is really good, and I think certain authors could make this book a lot better, however considering Ally Kennen had this idea first, no other author can re-write it, which is quite unfortunate, as it would have been better written by other authors. Anyway this is about a boy called Stephen. It's in first person so it takes some time to realise what his name is. Anyway, all you find out at first is that he buys animals to feed someone, and then you find out he is a foster child. You don't find out much about his family until about half-way through. This really did get on my nerves, as I kept on wondering who was who.
Anyway you later find out that he looks after a "Beast", but one of his bars are now rusted, Stephen is having nightmares, and then one night the beast escapes, what should Stephen do?

You may think that's the reason I didn't have much of an interest in this book, but to be quite honest I don't think this is the right book for me, it's more of an adventure/thriller sort of book for children rather than the usual book I read such as Meg Cabot and Darren Shan. However also I think another thing that I didn't like this book could have been due to it being more of a children's book, I'm a teenager, 15 years of age (well 16 soon) and I really need to start getting into reading more adult fiction, but then again I do enjoy the children books as you can tell by my recent reviews.
However this book isn't all bad, oh no! Its great story-line would tense any child up; I think they'd have to read a few chapters after the monster escapes to stop them from having nightmares. You never find out what this BEAST is until the very end, you laugh at yourself for making so many different and weird combinations of monster, I bet you a child will have a different combination every day until he/she finds out what it is.

But give this book as a birthday present for a 9 year old and they'd be happy!
