While shopping in Sainsbury's I came across Bebivita babyfood jars. They were on special offer so I decided to buy several different flavours to try them out. Now I perfer to cook my own baby food, but ready made jars are very handy when out and about, holidays or when you have'nt got around to making up a new batch and the family is having pizza!!

***What do Bebivita Claim***

No Gm ingredients
Carefully selected ingredients from controlled suppliers
Safe product wiht strict controlls over pollutant levels
Made in Germany and Austria
No artificial additives
Ingredients are tested throughout the production process to make sure they do not contain unwated chemicals.

I was impressed with the information written on the jars, it helped me feel secure about giving this new brand of baby food to my son.

***packaging***

I loved the design on the jars as they really caught my attention with the bright yellow lid and a cute teddy holding a notice board with a different nutritional point on it. There is a sunny logo over the 'A' of the brand name Bebivita which is also rather pleasant. I loved the the way the jars had a picture of the food which the jars contained. For example, on the cauliflower and potato jar, you could see these vegetables behind the writing. The jars are clearly marked either for 4months or 7months. The flavour of the food is written on the front and the ingredients and nutritional information are on the back. There is also a quick checklist on the side to see if the particular jar is gluten, milk or egg free. It also states if it is suitable for a vegetarian. The preparation instructions are on the back which included information on how long the product could be kept refrigerated once opened. The sell-by-date was easily found on the lid. I perfer buying jars to tins as you can put the ild back on and store any unused food in the fridge, which is not the case for tins or if out and about you can keep them in your coolbag.

Bebivita jars come in a range of tastes, catering for stage 1 (approx 4months) and Stage 2 (7months).

***Stage 1 jars***
The stage one jars have a smooth texture which are easy for baby to swallow, and the tastes are mainly restricted to two main ingredients with a selection of sweet and savoury. The one 4months jar which really stood out was the apple and banna and rusk. I had never seen a jar that included rusk. I thought this was a great idea. I personally don't like giving rusk to a young baby, and I only started weaning my children at 5-6months, but now that my son is little bit older I thought this taste was perfect as a breakfast as the small jar is adequate for mornings. There are nine different jars for stage one, each containing 125g

***Stage two jars suitable from 7months***

There are eight different flavours in this range, consisting of both sweet and savoury. As you would expect the stage 2 jars are bigger and contain 190g. They also have a chunkier texture, with bigger bits in them to help babies' learn to chew. The texture of these jars are excellent. They seemed to be a perfect consistancy, being neither too stodgy or runny. The tastes are mainly whole meals, like spaghetti bolognese or noodles with vegetables and pork. I loved the peach and passion fruit yogurt as this is very similar to hipp organic product which costs around 65p and bebvita is only 44p. This beivita yogurt dessert is peach and passion fruit topped witha layer of yogurt. This is very tasty dessert which I myself find yummy.

***Taste and texture***

I was very pleased with the taste of all the different flavours which I bought. My son loved them too which is of course the main thing. I thought the consistancy was superb and I felt the overall product had a very high standard especially as it is in the lower price range for baby food. The food did not seem to coagulate like the cheaper brands, yet the left over food stayed solid until the following day.

***Price***

This is a superb value babyfood. The small jars are 30p and the large jars are 44p. This is a similar price to the other non organic baby foods, but I felt that the quality, taste and texture was more like the organic ranges standard.

Some people may be put off this brand because it is not made in Britain, but it does have a British address on the jar and the food would have to pass the british standards before being allowed to be sold in Britain.

I went on the German website and as I expected there is a much greater variety available there. This probably means that in the future we can look forward to the full range of babyfoods from Bebivita, including mashes and drinks, up to 15months.

Highly recommended and well worth a try.

Oliver is nearly four months old, but my health visitor has said I shouldn't wean him yet as he is so large. I was really looking forward to it as well. Good review, but not something I will be buying for a while. Kat x
