My first encounter with this great product wasn't where you'd expect a product called After Party to be... on my mum's dressing table. Now, without wanting to be unnecessarily harsh on my dear mother, it must be said that the isn't quite the hard-partying type. When she goes out, it's usually for a country walk or for a civilised dinner with friends - not to a big all-night rave, a nightclub or even a bar. I'm not sure she's been out clubbing since I was born, and I'm nearly 25.
The mere fact that this was to be found in amongst my mum's haircare products was enough to tempt me to give it a try though - like me, my mother has dyed blonde hair, which is naturally curly and frizzy but worn straight and as smooth as we can get it. I knew as soon as I saw that this was a Tigi product
that it had been a recommended salon purchase, and with our similar hair types it didn't take me long to work out that this would probably work for me.
So I had a quick read on the back of the tube - not that easy on the neon pink background that the tube has! After Party is a finishing creme and also doubles up as a good refresher for when your hair doesn't quite need a wash, but isn't quite perfect either (hence the After Party name I'd imagine...). As I was snooping around my mum's room with the intention of blow drying and GHD'ing my hair, I decided to use this as my finishing creme. Usually when I do my hair I'm a bit naughty and straighten and go, so if this stuff did what it said I was bound to see an improvement.
A quick blow dry and straighten later, I dispensed a little After Party into my palm, rubbed my hands together, and ran them through the layers in my hair, from the bottom up, before smoothing the top layer of my hair with the small amount left on my palms. It smelt fantastic - really fruity and indulgent.
I saw the difference instantly. Before I used this, my hair was straight, but had a few flyaway hairs over the top, and generally looked a bit flat and dry. After applying some After Party, I was blessed with shiny, smooth hair, with defined layers - a look I absolutely love, and had failed to achieve before using this. My hair stayed straight and shiny until the next wash, although the defined layers were somewhat lost - which I had expected to happen really. It was a mini hair miracle in a tube, as far as I was concerned...
...so the next time I used a bit more After Party. This was a mistake. Use more than one pump of this, and it can make your hair look horribly greasy. There is a pretty fine line here!
Aware of the implications of using too much of this stuff, I was a little scared of using it for its other purpose - as a "refresher" for between washes. When I finally had a low risk day to experiment with this use for it, I tumbled out of bed, with my usual style, grace, and horrible Rod Stewart-esque frizzy mullet hair, ran a brush through the offending barnet and slapped some After Party on - not too much though! It did the job - smoothed my hair a little, made it smell divine, and generally de-Rod'd me, making it possible for me to leave the house. My hair did, however, get greasy by the end of the day - and I don't have very greasy hair usually.
Still, I find After Party to constitute the best quick hair fix that I've come across for my dry, coloured hair. If my hair looks in the slightest bit frizzy and out of control, a touch of this and I am able to face my public!
After Party is available in salons and in quite a few places online, priced between £10 and £15. As usual, strawberrynet look to be the cheapest place to buy this online. You'll recognise it because of the neon pink colour of the tube, and the vaguely suggestive looking (or is that just me?) bubble cap on the top of it. It lasts for a long time, as you absolutely only need a tiny bit to achieve brilliant results. Oh, and I've mentioned the smell a couple of times now - it really is gorgeous - fruity and sweet, but still "clean" smelling. When it's in your hair, you are treated to the odd whiff of the gorgeous scent throughout the day. My boyfriend can't stop sniffing my hair when I've used this - which is probably its best advertisement in my eyes!
For me, this will always usually be a finishing creme - but only because I don't need it between washes when I've used it straight after a wash! I would recommend this to anyone with dry, frizzy hair, and even those with normal hair who have a layered style they would like to make more of. Because of the nature of this product though, I would not recommend for those with thin or greasy hair, as it may make it look even flatter and greasier.
