Advantages Purportedly contains ingredients that numbs your throat and thus allieviating the pain, Blackcurrant flavour tastes pretty nice, Good packaging

Disadvantages They dont work and were not effective on me at all

Whenever I have a sore throat or a cold I am always open to suggestions for a suitable remedy.
Therefore when one of my friends suggested Beechams Throat-Plus Lozenges I wasted no time in picking up a pack.

Being a smoker, whenever I do get a cold it is usually my throat that suffers the most and it is in this light that I am still in search for the right medication.

Sometime ago I had written an opinion on Strepsils and in which I was not very happy with their product. Well I will simply like to inform you all that the Beechams equivalent is just as bad, if not worse and is a total waste of money.

The indications are that it is to be used for the relief of sore throats and the associated pains that accompany it.

It supposedly contains elements that numb your throat and therefore purporting to help relieve the pain.

The ingredients are: Hexylresorcinol 2.5mg, Benzalkonium chloride solution 1.2mg.

They come in packs of 24 lozenges and are sold for £2.05 per pack. The dosage is:

For Adults: Dissolve 1 lozenge slowly in the mouth every 3 hours or as required. Do not exceed 8 lozenges over a 24-hour period.

For Children between 7 to 12: Dissolve I lozenge slowly in the mouth every 3 hours or as required. Do not exceed 4 lozenges over a 24-hour period.

They are available in two flavours namely Lemon and Blackcurrant.

I used a total of 12 lozenges over a two day period and guess what?. Nothing happened.
So what did I do, I went back to my tried and trusted method of gargling with salt water.

The only thing that I can say positively about this product is that the blackcurrant lozenges taste pretty nice and generally taste better than Strepsils. Another plus point has to be the packaging, which is something you would expect from a Beechams product in the first place.

If your looking for a wonder cure for your sore throat then please do not bother with this.

As for me the search goes on. Anyone got any suggestions other than antibiotics?
