Guinness... 250 years in the making...

Advantages: Great pint from the right pub, can be the center of even the most philosophical of exchanges
Disadvantages: Your wallet, Your liver, Your Hangover

...and historically both the the Guinness and Irish brands are far more intertwined than perhaps is healthy for one man's liver, my 5 star recommendation of the black stuff (and it will be 5 stars!) is borne out of an appreciation for not only taste and quality but the experience and enjoyment you get out of a " few pints". There is little in this world that tastes as well as a "good pint" and on this day I would encourage you all to go in search of ...

Review of Guinness Original Stout

Two of my biggest vices in a bottle

Advantages: Unique, well brewed
Disadvantages: Non beer drinkers may be disappointed

...with malt alone. Soon afterwards, Young's launched its Double Chocolate Stout, using chocolate malt, but also adding the luxury of real dark chocolate. Hence the name ‘Luxury Double Chocolate’. One point that seems a little unclear is the basis for this beer before the adding of the chocolate. On the label the wording is “…chocolate combined with Young’s award winning rich, full-flavored dark beer…”. I am not completely sure whether this is a stout ...
...Price & Availability Young's products are pretty well travelled and not difficult to find in the USA. I paid a bargain $1.99 (£1.30) for a 500 ml bottle. Beers of Europe (a Ciao recommended site) lists this at £1.49. Awards 1998 bronze medal Brewing Industry International Awards 2000 gold medal and Championship Trophy in Brewing Industry International Awards ...

Review of Young's Luxury Double Chocolate Stout

Fullers London Porter

Advantages: Nice complex, roasty taste. Not too expensive.
Disadvantages: A bit heavy sometimes. Not as refreshing as a lager for example.

Fullers London Porter. 5.4% ABV Usually £1.89 for a single bottle. But on the current 4 for 3 deal at Sainsbury's it comes to £1.42 per bottle. London Porter is brewed by Fuller, Smith & Turner Plc at their Griffin Brewery in Chiswick London. Next to the river Thames in their 350 year old brewery which is the oldest in London. It is easilly available from Sainsbury's and probably also from the other main supermarkets. The porter has a smooth, roasty ...
...for a quiet night in than if you want a few more beers. It's colour is very dark, almost black. There is a slight tint of ruby if held up to the light. It holds a thick, tan coloured head which clings to the sides of the glass. This is similar to a stout, only with a sweeter malty flavour and less bitter than a stout. I've not tried many Porters but this has introduced me to the style and I really like it. I had a Porter at a beer festival I went ...

STOUT AND SURE

Advantages: NOT GUINNESS
Disadvantages: ?

I decided to take my Murphy’s draught Irish Stout at home rather than in a pub. The stout came in a 440-ml can alcoholic content 4% by vol. According to the pictogram on the can this is the equivalent to 1.8 UK units. The product is produced under licence in the UK and distributed by Interbrew UK Ltd. Murphy’s was established in 1856. You can contact Interbrew at INTERBREW UK LTD, LUTON LU1 3LS. They have a consumer helpline 0870 24 111 24. THE ...
...notice a white head tops the black stuff. It’s suggested you serve cold. At room temperature some of the flavour is lost. Murphy’s stout is sweet not bitter and for me this gives it an edge over Guinness and adds considerably to the malty taste experience. The can is recyclable steel and contains a pressurised insert. ENJOY ...
