Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone

A good reliable microphone.

Advantages: Good quality, no drivers, universal, long, durable.
Disadvantages: Not great for sophisticated recording.

A very fine computer microphone that has lasted me seven years so far with no issues of compatibility, control, volume or quality. It is light, with a very sleek design. The microphone stick itself can be detached from its base and used as a hand held device but whilst it can be entirely dismantled with ease (so that it is just a mic on the end of a wire,) the stick itself is solid and cannot be manipulated, so should the user wish to physically attach it to their computer, they would probably find it necessary to manoevre themselves so that they are speaking directly into it, as well as using the provided pad for doing so,. -- Due to its lack of malleability, and absence of an earphone, it is not possible to use this product as a headset. Advantages: Organises and powers up to twelve effects pedals
Disadvantages: A bit expensive to start out.

The Classic Budget Condenser Microphone

Advantages: Great value, all rounder, well-built
Disadvantages: No rolloff switch, top-mid boost not for everyone

It is hard for anyone to make an immediate impact on the pro audio industry but Rode has certainly done that since the release of the NT2 and then the NT1 condenser microphones. The NT1 allowed home studio owners to buy a professional standard condenser mic for less then £200, and has now become a classic in its own right. The budget condenser is now more tough than ever, but despite being release several years ago, the Rode NT1 is still the mic all new budget condensers are being compared to. Rode even claim that the NT1 is the best selling condenser mic in the world. So why is the price so low?
