This is a review of a guitar effects pedal board. I suspect that the first thing I need to do is define what a guitar effect pedal is, and why you might need a board for it.

Probably the most well known effect pedal is the Wah Wah pedal, heavily used in reggae music and by the likes of the late Mr. James Hendrix and it is a pedal that alters the note of a guitar to make it sound like WAH WAH! Other well known effects are the dubiously named Big Muff Fuzz box, which adds distortion to the sound.

There are literally dozens of different effects that you can add to the chain between your guitar and the amplifier and if you have more than a couple of them it is worth thinking about getting a pedal board so that you can get them organised. The thing they all have in common is that they are all designed to be operated with the feet.

I found that I had collected a group of pedals and that there was a need for storage, portability and a means of powering them.

Each of these effects pedals is powered by a 9 volt battery and replacing them, when you have left the pedal plugged in, thus switched on, can get expensive.

I decided to treat myself to a pedal board when I needed to replace four PP3 batteries and thought that I would find myself buying them in bulk, so I went in search of a mounting system and found this one.

It includes a 9 volt 1.7 amp mains power supply and a daisy chain cable with plugs that fit most standard pedals, obviating the need for batteries.

The pedals fit to the board using Velcro so that you can choose your layout, short cables are supplied so that you can link them together in an order that suits you. Once they are set up all you have to do to set up your pedals is open the carry case, place the lid somewhere safe and plug it in. You plug the board into the mains and the amplifier, then plug your instrument in the board.

When it is time to pack up and go home you just unplug it and put the lid back on, you will need a third arm so that you can carry the guitar case in one, the amp in the second and the pedal board in the one you grew for the occasion.

The case is tough plastic and will protect your expensive pedals from damage, as well as saving hours of plugging in all the cables and arranging them in the right pattern.
The board has non-slip rubber feet so it stays where you put it, always a useful thing.
The only thing that would make it better would be adjustable feet which would permit the board to be tilted so that it can be used when playing sitting or standing.

This is a product I would recommend to any guitarist who has more than two pedals is their rig. I am glad I made the leap and got one.

They are listed on Behringer's website at £109 but a bit of shopping around will secure one at around half this price.
