So what does a Chorus pedal do?
Well it sits in the line between the guitar and amplifier and alters the signal. Basically it is a modulating effect which adds a slight highlight and a lowlight, to create a softened, even slightly ethereal tone to the sound.
There are four controls that allow you to adjust the effect, Level, Tone, Rate and Depth, an input jack and two outputs so that you can use two amplifiers to create stereo effects. The controls aren't really self explanatory, you need to play around with them to see what they do.
The on/off switch is designed to foot operated but you can use your hand as well, I have found that these effects are better mounted at waist height so that I can reach the control knobs more easily.
I have read criticism of this range of effects which works along the lines of "It's made of plastic, so it can't be any good" well, this is a solid enough piece of kit, more than sturdy enough to put up with normal usage. The plastic casing is nearly a quarter of an inch thick and can take my considerable weight, i discovered this when I put my full weight on it when getting up to answer the phone! I paid about £22 for this pedal, that's around a third of the price of the nearest competitor.
Whilst fiddling around this weekend I tried the chorus pedal with the pitch shift effect on my multi-effect pedal and managed to create a fantastic tone that sounded like a human voice. I drove the neighbours mad for at least an hour messing around with that one!
In would have no hesitation in recommending it to any one wanting to build up a collection of quality effects pedals at a sensible price.
