This silver monster is pretty imposing as fridge freezers go. Its big, it's roomy and best of all its frost-free.
Frost free? Well that means that you won't have to go digging around in it every few weeks with your chisel and hairdryer removing all the excessive white stuff. Always a bonus I would say.

The fridge compartment makes up the top half of this item. It is large and has enough shelves and compartments to refrigerate almost anything you could desire. The door contains two tall shelves for bottles and a shallower shelf for small bottles and cans etc along with an egg tray. At the top there is a dairy compartment for your butter and cheese. All these shelves have ample room for their jobs, as do the main shelves in the fridge. This contains moveable shelving so that you can have them as you please. There is also a moveable wine rack to keep that favourite bottle of white plonk cool and ready for Sunday dinner. Speaking of which there is a meat shelf at the bottom for storing meat and sausages etc. You know that fresh meat should be kept separately to other food don't you? And as it is at the bottom nothing is going to drip onto other food to possibly contaminate it.
Under the meat shelves are two crisper boxes for the fruit and veg. They are closed to avoid contact with the meat above and just easily pull out when required to open.
The freezer makes up the bottom half of the beast. It has four drawers; each is quite large with the bottom one being slightly less deep than the others are. The top draw is the fast freeze draw and also contains the ice trays.
The freezer has a fan in the rear that circulates cold air.
All up the BEKO gives you 14.2 cu.ft of storage, quite a lot more than our previous one.

It has some nifty gadgets too, a 2.2 litre capacity water dispenser in the door so that you have chilled water on tap, great for making squash on a summers day. Use of the water dispenser is simplicity itself, to get a drink all you have to do is place your glass in the dispensing compartment and push the lever with your glass. Filling is easy too, just pour water from a jug into the reservoir inside the door up to the fill line. Easy as that.
Another aid to chilled drinks is the icemaker in the freezer compartment. This is a really good idea. The ice is made in an ice tray and at the twist of a knob all the ice cubes fall into a tray below. It's a lot easier than mucking about with regular ice trays that's for sure. It also has a nice blue neon light in the front that not only tells you that the machine is working but it looks good too.
Noise wise, there is a slight hum as the freezer does its stuff but it is very muted and unobtrusive and it fades into the background to become almost unnoticeable.

So that's the machine, how about when it gets delivered. Simplicity itself, if you are lucky the delivery man will set it up for you but if not then it is not a problem. First decide where you want your appliance and then fit the two wall spacers at the back to keep the condenser coils from bashing into the wall. When they have been fitted adjust the feet so that your new BEKO stands up nice and straight. Remove the plug from its protective niche in the back, plug it in replace the grill at the front and you are ready to rock or should that be ice.
Fitting was where we had our only problem. Our fault really, we just didn't realise just how much wider it was than our other one. So yes you guessed it, our brand spanking new BEKO wouldn't fit in the available space so we had to turn it sideways, not ideal but it fits for now until we come up with a long term solution. It does say in the instructions that you need to have a 10cu. m. to fit the machine, bit late once you have purchased it but never mind that is a minor problem.
A bit more major was our need to have the doors opening the other way, not too great a worry as the instructions are quite straight forward and easy to follow and the procedure is fairly simple too so that was accomplished in a short time. All in all the instruction book is well laid out and easy to follow and included all we wanted to know.
You also get supplied with a guarantee card to fill in and send off to validate your purchase.
We bought our BEKO from Comet for £350 base price plus delivery and removal of our old fridge freezer. We thought they might as well do it as you can't just take fridges or freezers to the dump and for the sake of saving us hassle I thought a £15 charge was reasonable. Anyway together with the item and delivery and disposal plus a five-year guarantee that covers all food as well as parts and labour the total cost of our investment was £565. I thought that was quite good value, now if it lasts as long as its predecessor we will be well happy.

Cleaning is straightforward. Use a damp cloth to clean the outside and either a damp cloth inside or if better cleaning is required then bicarbonate of soda diluted in water can be used.
This BEKO product is an A class freezer as is BEAB approved and safety assured.

All in all we are very pleased with our BEKO and hope to have it in our kitchen for a long time to come.

I have always wanted one of these, just for the water chiller alone. I always said that hairdryers had other uses then just drying hair. I use mine to defrost my chest freezer. Great review. Joan x
