Well I've seen the Beko name around a lot recently and the prices for most of their goods seem to be really competetive; if not the cheapest on the market.
Having just ruined my old Hotpoint by using a chisel to clear out the ice in the freezer compartment and puncturing the lining causing all the gas to leak out (Yes I know dont i feel a fool!!!) - Apparently its more common a disaster than you would think!
So I decided this time to go for a frost free fridge freezer to avoid potential mishaps but being shall we say temporarily financially embarrassed I thought Id try the Comet Clearance centre when I bagged this little bargain reduced from £299.99 to £149 because of a cosmetic scratch on the side of the unit which isnt a problem as the fridge freezer is hidden in its own cupboard.
Well I spent a week checking out other makes and I decided I would like one with a wine rack inside and one of those fancy external drinks dispensers on the outside - would have loved and ice crusher too but that would have put the price out of my reach so the CDA653F is the one.
So what of the unit; well the electronics are superb , it doesnt use gases which may damage the ozone layer so Im doing my bit for the environment and I would imagine this one will last and last. Fast freeze function really does freeze very quickly. A class refrigeration and frost free. 340kwh energy rated per year - There are better rated fridge freezers for energy consumption but they are usually smaller in capacity so you gets what you pay for!
The freezer compartment is perfect for storing lots of frozen goodies. The fridge compartment on the other hand is slightly cramped due to the design of the rear of the shelves which has a plastic groove on them which stops you being able to fit food right against the back wall of the fridge and the wine rack (which is removeable) does take up some precious space.
I must admit compared to my old fridge , the vegetable chiller drawers in the fridge are somewhat cramped. The clear design of all the freezer drawers makes it easy to see whats in the drawers without removing them and the ice cube tray works well although i would have preferred one of those new twist and dump ice cube drum dispensers. The supplied egg rack must surely be a joke as its just a flimsy piece of plastic you stick into the top drawer but as I kept my old fridge freezer I transplanted its one into the Beko.
The compressor is ultra quiet and is hardly noticeable once the unit is up and running for a day. The design is actually one of the nicest in the showroom in its price range and the auto-defrost function is unbeatable for avoiding little/or big mishaps with chisels... >;o)
I asked a showroom salesman in Comet what he thought and was told Beko were rubbish but since I have found this not to be true through friends and relatives who all buy Beko now - I presume this salesman was angling at me spending £700 or more on his commission.
Isnt it sad how badly trained and the couldnt be bothered attitude of British shop staff these days!!! If I had listened to his advice I wouldnt have found what a bargain Beko devices are! So much so I'm considering a Washer Dryer as my next Beko purchase when finances allow!
Since buying Beko i have found they are the "Which magazine" best buy in nearly all domestic appliances , big in Central and Eastern Europe , British based and the largest seller of refrigeration in the UK.
