A few months ago my wife and I moved home, and needed to completely re-equip the kitchen. I have always had a love of the American style fridgefreezers with built in water dispensers, but as most were over the £700 mark they were well out of my price range. We went to our local Comet store, where I found three Beko models, all priced quite reasonably, however the one that caught my eye was this model.
FRIDGE
For a start off its A class rating for energy efficiency fitted in nicely with our low energy requirement, as we wanted to keep our bills as low as possible. Its storage capacity is an impressive 260 litres, with 2 thirds being in the fridge, the remaining third the freezer. The fridge comes with built in water dispenser (not mains connected unfortunately, you have to top it up manually) and two salad crisper compartments, plus numerous door mounted shelves which are ideal for milk cartons and fruit juice, and three glas shelves plus a "wine rack" to create an excellent storage space.
FREEZER
The freezer is split into 4 comparments, plus an ice bank, which is in reality a plastic shelf to store ice cube trays and freezer packs in. Its quite handy if you have young children as I have a number of cold packs stored in it for my families bumps and grazes. The freezer has its downsides though. The four compartments aren't particularly large, and with my family of four I often find that we could have done with drawers we could pull out for all four sections, but instead the top area is a shelf with a pull down drawer. this means to get anything out of the back you need to empty the entire drawer out.
PROBLEMS
The only problem I encountered with this product was the water dispenser. When it was delivered it came separately to the freezer, and I had to assemble it myself. This was no real problem, and I left it in place for 24 hours before putting any water in to it. Unfortunately it developed a leak, and I had to call out an engineer and empty the comtainer. When the engineer arrived the fault didn't exist anymore, and it hasn't leaked since. The only solution the engineer came up with was that it took almost a week for the dispenser to get to temperature and the rubber seals to contract and fit. Not sure how true that is, but I certainly have had no repeat of it.
