Having just moved out of home and in with my boyfriend, into a semi-furnished house I now have plenty to review!!! YAY!!!
When we moved into our tiny new house there was a washing machine however it was older than both of us put together and it didn't take long to pack up. We contacted our land-lady who promptly bought us a new one and had it delivered early one morning. As with everything nowadays it arrived covered in plastic and cardboard which all in all appeared to be pretty useless and very annoying. Anyway, that aside and my recycling sufficiently topped up for the week, the washing machine was fitted with little difficulty. The delivery driver was very helpful, removing the old machine and taking that with him along with subsequently and quickly fitting the new one. I am sad to say that this was not purchased from a large national company, as I think everyone should have this sort of service, however the service we received was very good. Can highly recommend Varker Appliance Services of St Austell, Cornwall (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&um=1&ie=UTF-8

As you can see from Ciao's pictures and some of those below, this machine is nothing fancy but unfortunately as it is so white it did make my kitchen look rather grubby so I quickly got to work. After the rest of the kitchen was sparkling I then set to work on a week's worth of washing.
My mother showed me how to use a washing machine at the age of twelve, there were a few mantras that she seemed to use "stuff as much in as will possibly fit and then jam the door shut" and "it doesn't matter what they're made of or what colour they are as long as they're dirty clothes they can go in". However, when I moved in with my boyfriend I was re-educated me in the art of seperation of fabrics and colours and different temperatures of wash. So, although I have not had this washing machine for long I have already used several of the programs and different settings. The programs are Synthetics 60° Synthetics 40° Synthetics 30° Synthetics Cold Cottons 90° Cottons 60° Cottons 40° Cottons Cold Woolens 40° Woolens Cold A Class 40° Mini 30° Delicates 30° Hand Wash Rinse Spin and Drain To select a program there is a dial on the front of the machine which is large and easy to move, thus changing programs is very easy. One thing that separates this machine from a lot of others on the market is that the programs are actually labelled with words rather than letters or numbers and a large key. I think this makes life much simpler, never any confusion over which program you have chosen.
Also on the front of the machine there is a number of buttons Start/Pause Cancel Prewash Rinse Hold Extra Rinse each of these can be selected at any time and have a light to indicate when they are active.
There are also three other lights on the front of the machine Ready Wash Spin/End these indicate the status of the machine and I think they are not only cute but also quite a helpful feature.
The drawer of this machine large with three compartments, one is used for prewash, one for detergent and the other for fabric softener. The drawer is easy to push and pull and each section is large enough not to make too much mess when filling them.
The main difference I have noticed between this machine and the previous one is that this machine is very quite even during the spin cycle. This does make a large difference as I usually try to put the machine on overnight. This washing machine is also very stable which means it doesn't rattle and make even more noise in the middle of the night.
I have found this machine to be really effective, despite only having 1000rpm the washing seems to come much drier than our previous machine with the same spec but far older. I was very surprised by the condition of the washing and when I have used the extra spin the washing comes out almost dry.
Now, just a few technical bits The spin speed is 1000rpm The maximum load is 5kg The wash grade is A (which I assume is good) The energy efficiency is grade A (which I know is good) The spin efficiency grade is C (which isn't as good but better than D I suppose) A 40° wash takes 139 minutes A 60° wash takes 161 minutes, uses 49 litres of water and 0.95kW A quick wash takes 35 minutes This machine is currently selling for around £169.99 (Comet price)
So...overall I think this machine is excellent value for money. It combines the basic with the useful and is everything a washing machine needs to be. Although I wish it wasn't quite so white I can't complain too much about this machine as it was FREE!!! I would recommend this machine to anyone who needs one, whether you're on a budget or not.
Now, I have had this machine a year and very few of my opinions have changed. However, I think that with it's use it has become worn and has now started to migrate across the kitchen, this is fine for me as my boyfriend can easily move it back to it's original position, but if you were a single female or elderly this may cause somewhat of a problem for you. Just something to bear in mind, if you don't want to have to change your washing machine every year?!
Also, after each wash we are now setting the machine to complete at least one extra spin cycle. Although, this is not a huge issue it does mean you use more electricity per wash than possibly with other machines. It does also mean that each wash takes long and makes more noise than it used too, this is frustrating as I put most of our washing on over night, meaning in the morning I have to run another spin cycle.
Considering the bargain basement price of this machine I would highly recommend it to families or young couples, I would recommend it to anyone though. It's certainly worth having a look for the ease of use, spacious design and price.

I can't help feeling that 'your mother's method' was a recipe for everything turning out a greyish pink eventually. We've got a BEKO fridge and have nothing to complain about after 9 years.
