To begin with, it is one very good monitor at a very decent price. It costs £175 inc.VAT(at dabs.com). and the technical specs of it also seem good. It is capable of 1600 x 1200 with a refresh rate of 65Hz. I don't really need to run at this resolution, so I normally use 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz, ... ...better 17" monitors with a bit more money, most the time I don't need to run at such high resolutions, so this monitor is more than enough. I would have prefered a refresh rate of 85Hz when at 1280 x 1024, but 75Hz is still barable, but only if you really concentrate you can see a few flickers now and then.

To begin with, it is one very good monitor at a very decent price. It costs £175 inc.VAT(at dabs.com). and the technical specs of it also seem good. It is capable of 1600 x 1200 with a refresh rate of 65Hz. I don't really need to run at this resolution, so I normally use 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz, which is much better. Though you could probably get much better 17" monitors with a bit more money, most the time I don't need to run at such high resolutions, so this monitor is more than enough. I would have prefered a refresh rate of 85Hz when at 1280 x 1024, but 75Hz is still barable, but only if you really concentrate you can see a few flickers now and then.
Generally when buying a monitor, first decide what size you want, I personally prefer 17" as it's a balance between work, games and deskspace. If you're into multimedia and games, you should consider 19" at a price. Then what resolution are you going to run it at? Please nothing below 1024 x 768, please? The higher the resolution, the more detailed the screen is. However the standard CRT monitors, the higher the res. means the harder it is for the monitor to 'refresh' the picture, which means the more it flickers. Anything above 70Hz is bearable. 85Hz is recommended.
This 17" monitor is also quite small in footprint, so doesn't take up too much desk space. Although taller than my old 15" monitor, it takes up less desk space! This is mainly because the stand on which it is on looks like a mini-hub cap, and so your keyboard or mousemat can slide under the monitor, so you have a few more cm's to work with.
There are all the usuals such as OSD, which has 5 different languages? but I dont see the point of it. It has a dot pitch of 0.26mm, which is reasonable as you can get quite good detail on the screen, but if it were 0.24mm, I don't think I would notice any thing different, unless I use a magnifying glass!
The screen is almost flat, and not like the very old CRT monitors which were so curved, it looked like it was cut from a football. This one has some special (but not the new Trinitron) technology to enable it to gain a flatter appearance.
It has great focus, and good contast so you can look at the screen with loads of text pretty well.
The only bad points I can think about this monitor is that about 5mm on the left of the screen does not have such great colour when the background is white. It is slightly yellow. Although there are several OSD options to adjust the picture the actual edge of the picture is slightly difficult. The top-right corner is slightly bent, but only slightly as most the time you are looking at the centre of the screen.
Great 17" monitor at a very affordable price; also makes the aesthetics of your room go up from its quality build.
