Carrying over 1000 tunes in my bag and at the gym I found it a bit of a waste to be lugging cassettes around especially if I had recently downloaded new tunes. I want to listen to them in my car now! This product allows me the choice of all my music on the move whatever mood takes me and the charger means I can keep ipod powered up so no running out of power at the gym etc.
The product consists of a cassette adaptor and a charger which operates through the cigarette lighter. They can be used simultaneously so the battery is continually charged. However this means two wires are hanging loose. I sit my ipod on top of the dashboard and the wires come up to meet it. It would be dangerous to fiddle with the ipod while driving, however the playlists i have set up allow plenty of musical variety so i can just switch it on at the start of the journey and not touch it again.
Sound quality is generally good, although when you first switch it on you have to adjust the volumes on both the ipod and the car stereo to get the best combination of sound. I also find this varies according to the type of music being played, but this is not a problem as the volume can be readjusted on either.
All in all i would recommend this product as it has made a big difference to long journeys, albeit wires etc. can be a bit of a nuisance, but it gives me what i wanted from it, the ability to play my ipod through the car speakers with the added bonus of being able to charge the battery at the same time.
...the cassete adapter, I think Belkin makes this as well - you plug that into the the adapter and then into your normal car stereo through the 'cassete' and it plays out through your car stereo..nifty eh?!! No need for a line in connection. It has has a 3.5mm headphone jack on it so that you can attach the cassete adapter too, and allows you to adjust the volume of the amplification! It also has a little tab so you can tie the wire up nice and neatly, ... ...as I use it everytime I finish with it. The whole kit weighs less than a pound.
I bought the kit for $45 from a website in the states a few months ago, but I'm sure you can get it from UK based websites now.
The kit is made from the same material as the other Ipod accesories, the shiny white plastic, pretty durable to be honest as it usually gets thrown under the car seat when I park up so that people can't see it to nick it! Again, mine has scratched ...
