firewire has now long be established as the industry standard for video transfer from dv camcorders to pc. the main benefits of this being the ability to edit the videos you have taken, and then to store them onto a dvd, that will be kept safe forever.

gone are the days where you had to archive your holiday videos on large space hungary video cassette, the digital revolution is here, and not only does a cd take up half the space as a tape, it stores a lot my video ! a typical video casette can take 3 hours of footage, with the new 8.5 gb dvd now avaible ( at a gb an hour rate) thats over 8 hours of high quality footage, fantastic.

the ease with which videos can be edited is fantastic, take any video editing software, adobe pro is the best i feel, and you can add music, effects, transitions between parts, and really create a very professional looking dvd to treasure and keep forever. even if you do not have a dvd burner, vcds can be created in a cd burner that hold 700 mb of data (* about 40 mins) so you can see store your memories safe forever.

so give you an example of the functionality of firewire, recently we went on a holiday to portugal with our new sony cam, as soon as we got home it was as simple as plug, open program click record, open dvd writing software click and dragging the wanted files.. and the dvd is created. of course there are ways to spice up your dvds, creating menus to split up a long video is great , when you are trying to find a specific part instead of fast forwarding for ten minutes, u can choose which scene you would like to watch ( which you choose when creating the dvd)

so what are the real benefits of this cable, well to be honest, if you are going to trasnfer any video to a computer its firewire all the way, it trasnfers at 480mbs which is great quality, as oppose to usb.1.0 that is 11mbs, the quality you will get , both sound and video, is amazing in comparison.

the only trouble you may have is matching the pin sizes to you firewire card and you dv camera. the standard dv size is 4 pin to 6 pin, but on a laptop, the firewire cable you are likely to need is 4 pin to 4 pin, as the laptop has a 4 pin firewire socket in it. it is always best to check which ports you need , otherwise you will be stuck with a none fitting cable.

so overal firewire is a great product, this cable was fast and relible and i would very much reccomend it at such a low price. : )
