I bought this adapter as a solution to the problem of running a cable through the house to connect the computer upstairs to the internet via the router that was supplied with my broadband service (BT Home Hub). Straight from the box, the setup was quite simple and providing that the instructions are followed then installation should not be a problem. It is important to mention at this point that it’s important to install your software in the right order. Wireless software first, and then lastly the ISP software (this is purely to allow the sip software to see what kind of connection is available).
Once installed the adapter works on its own in the background, however the connection (in my case) is unstable and frequently loses connection with the router whilst my laptop (using a different adapter) very rarely does. This becomes a constant problem especially when you are trying to do anything time consuming on the internet and you have to constantly wait to be reconnected. The signal strength of the connection is always poor even though the router is no great distance away.
If you can get around the connection problems then the adapter is actually a very good performer, it gives very fast connection speeds and allows seamless internet browsing. The adapter gives better connection speeds than some of the other adapters that I own/have used in the past. This makes the adapter a good performer even with the issues surrounding the stability of the connection.
As I have mentioned above, the adapter is quite easy to setup from the box, you simply run the cd and then plug it in. The ISP software can then detect the connection and setup can be completed. The software however, is badly designed and poor in general. There is little decent help included and many of the aspects of the program are unclear and difficult to understand. This is a major issue if the person who is trying to install the adapter is inexperienced or does not understand the ins and outs of wireless connections.
In everyday use, the adapter is easy to use, the only indication that you have as to whether the unit is working is the blinking led on the adapter itself and the icon that the software installs into your computers system tray to alert you of the connection speed. There is no "turning on" the unit, it simply operates when the connection is in use.
I have given the reliability of the unit a poor in this review and I must clarify exactly what I mean. The reliability of the connection is poor and even though the connection speeds are good, this does not mean that the adapter is prone to hardware failure. I have not had any problems of this nature and therefore wish I could give a rating of "good but intermittent".
The instructions that are included in the box are far from comprehensive; they do show the user how to correctly set up the adapter in conjunction with your computer or laptop. The manual could have been greatly improved and does not explain clearly the most important information relating to the adapter.
Manufacturer support is a very difficult thing for me to talk about with this product, the website allows for downloads of the latest drivers etc, and does have an FAQ section that should have perhaps been included within the manual. It is worth noting however that the best gauge of manufacturer support is when something actually goes wrong with the product, a problem that I have not had to deal with.
The unit can be bought from £10 up to £20 and is around the same price as many other similar adapters; this is too much in my opinion. There are better adapters out there that could be bought for the same price.
Thank you for reading this review I hope it helps. :-)

Review of Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter Network adapter
Advantages: Simple to set up and use Disadvantages: Software is not the greatest
...bought to connect to my Belkin wireless router meaning that I now had a wireless network consisting only of Belkin hardware.
--Whats in the box--
On opening the box, there were no real surprises. There was the USB adapter, a stand which would allow you to place the adapter on your desk if you didnt want to have it plugged directly into the back of your PC, the antenna, a quick installation guide and a CD which contained the drivers and a full manual.
... ...do. This product complements the Belkin wireless router perfectly, although it can be used, just as easily with other routers.
I would highly recommend this wireless adapter to anyone, whether they are new to the wireless scene of just looking to upgrade their exisiting setup. If I was pushed to choose between this and the Belkin Wireless PCI card though, I would have to go for the PCI card as I feel that it just has the edge in terms of performance.

Advantages: Cheap, connects to routers of all types I have tried Disadvantages: Breaks easily, driver problems in Vista
...internet problems, and chose the Belkin Wireless G USB adapter, as other members of my family use them and they are not expensive. === Driver Download === In order to get your Belkin wireless adapter to work, you must download the drviers from the internet. This is very annoying if you need to be wireless to connect easily. Other wireless internet USB (Vodaphone wireless broadband) I've used, have the driver software contained on the USB stick, which ... ...comes up is the official Belkin driver download site. It immediately takes you to a 3 step guide to installing the correct driver. First you have to read the FFC ID, which is in minuscule writing on the back of the device. Although, the website shows you exactly where to look, it is still hard to physically read the font. Once you have found out which version to pick, the driver is downloaded and finally installed. === Connectivity === I find that ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Not enough information on software or packaging.
I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare. The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If ... ...crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund but wonderered if there was anything wrong with my computer. Luckily for me a friend knew what to do. Belkin mentioned nothing about the settings ...

Advantages: Wireless connectivity - Supplied with stand - Fast data transfer - Good Price Disadvantages: Temperamental Software, Stand Falls Over - Installation hit & miss
I currently have 3 of these adapters installed at my home connecting 3 PC's wirelessly to a BT Voyager2500V Router.
I purchased the first one after suffering months of problems with an intermittent broadband connection using an extension cable.
The adapter comes well packaged in a far larger box than is necessary (minus points for environmental responsibility) and is supplied complete with software drivers, software to manage the wireless network, ... ...1st impressions were that the build quality is adequate although with the adapter being very light the stand could definitely have done with being heavier.
I have never installed a network before but the installation sheet made all seem very straightforward.
1. Install Software.
2. Plug in adapter when prompted.
3. Away to go.
The software is supplied on a cd and installed without a hitch. When prompted to do so I connected the adapter stand ...

Advantages: allows me to get online Disadvantages: sometimes unreliable
Since I recently moved from my old workplace in Harrogate to a new one in Lydd (don't worry I had no idea where it was either). I have a few new things to review. This is the first of my new technology reviews.
So as I like ciao, clearly I like the internet but the company I work for will not allow its staff to have phone lines put in to the staff accomodation as we're all on mobile contracts and can be moved at anytime, so getting online is something ... ...business building itself. But when the accomodation is in the same building as the business you can take advantage of the wi-fi put in for the use of the customers (soldiers, saliors, airmen). But my laptop is too old to have built in wireless networking, so i needed a usb adaptor to help me take advantage of the facilities avaliable.
After a quick search on amazon I found this device, it met all my criteria, cheap, and simple to use. When it arrived ...
